Interesting. The guys at TSN were saying it would all be inter conference games.

Can't be true. The schedule is in conference only.

Could be wrong but i could have sworn i heard that if there was a 50 game schedule, there would be some non-conference games.

If I remember reading earlier today before I left for a birthday party, schedule was something like 20 division games and 30 conference games.

Yes, 5 games vs 4 division rivals. 3 games vs 10 conference foes.

With the odd number of games, 5 in division and 3 in conference, I wonder how they are determining who gets the extra home game?

The other one we used to see was 7 games against division and 2 games against conference. That would be if they went with 48 games rather than 50. I do like the 50 game format better. That 7 and 2 is just too division heavy in my opinion.

Rylan - I think once the owners and players both ratify the deal (I think Wednesday), they'll release the schedule.

Even though it seems like they'll go with 50 games, 48 is still possible. Assuming they do go with 48, I just did a quick look at the home schedule only. It shouldn't change by too much. They'll need 24 home games. They currently have 21 scheduled with the following breakdown:

Non-conference 2

Toronto 1
Montreal 2
Boston 2
Buffalo 2
Ottawa 1

Washington 1
Carolina 0
Winnipeg 0
Florida 1
Tampa Bay 1

NY Rangers 2
NY Islanders 2
Flyers 3
Devils 1

They need to play those first 2 groups once at home. They'll need to play their own division a minimum of 3 times at home (2 of the teams would be 4 time at home).

So the home game changes would be:
-change the opponent on the 2 non conference games (lets call that Carolina and Winnipeg for example)
-change the opponent on the 3 extra Montreal Buffalo and Boston games (lets call those all devils games for example)
-add 3 more home dates to the schedule (call that 1 each to Flyers, NY Rangers, NY Islanders for example)

That means to be in compliance with what the shortened season format is expected to be, they'll only need to change a minimum of 5 home opponents, and only add 3 dates to the schedule.

And actually, to expand on my post above, if you want to assume the 50 game schedule, they still don't have to change any of the home dates. They just have to
-switch the opponents on the 2 non-conference games (lets call those both devils games for example)
-add 4 more home dates to the schedule (lets call those 2 games against Carolina and 2 games against Winnipeg for example)

If it's a 50 game season, would this sound right?

20 games in division
15 games vs NE
15 games vs SE

No games vs the West.

Well if what McKenzie just tweeted is true about the format, that just blew my 7 games against division and 2 against the rest of the East out of the water. He's claiming 5 games against 2 division opponents, 4 games against the other 2 division opponents, and 3 games against the rest of the East. That means there are a lot more possibilities of how to rework the schedule (still think the vast majority of home dates stay the same though)

No word about expanding the playoff field for this season only, any word on expanding the playoff field? terrible idea if you ask me, owners want to find a way to make a few extra dollars. This kinda explains why there would be more focus more confrence play tan division play.
