Marc-Andre Fleury backstopped the Penguins to a Stanley Cup in 2009 and has generally been stellar for Pittsburgh in his eight years in the league. Last year, however, Fleury showed signs of struggle, especially in the playoffs. Team brass chalked it up to fatigue before making a move to fix the situation by signing veteran Tomas Vokoun. He's perhaps the best backup goalie in the league and will allow Fleury to rest without a noticeable drop-off in play, keeping him fresh for the playoffs.
This is looking like a real nice move now with a potentially condensed 48-game schedule.
