Jeffery over Bennet or Megna? wth

Postby Godric on Sun Jan 20, 2013 2:49 am

I'm sure it has something to do with waivers but at this point is there even a reason to keep Dustin Jeffery around? Imo, he was Chris Bourque today.

1 game & we're already overreacting.

I'm more confused that Vitale's not a permanent fixture on the 4th line by now. But I guess waivers. They don't want to lose Jeffrey.

I believe this is a far cry from overreacting... I'm not buying my Mckinnon or Jones Penguins sweater yet. All I am saying is if Jeffery keeps playing like he did today its going to look really dumb that we sent down Bennett and Megna

Also, it was made clear that Bennett might not be down all that long anyways. If he gains some of the weight back after being sick and Tangradi continues to be DOA, then don't be surprised if Bennett is here to stay later in the season.

This isn't a valid argument. And it goes beyond Jeffrey's waiver status that others have already correctly pointed out.

Jeffrey, at the moment, is a utility player who can fill in at several different spots. For now, his time is either going to be spent playing limited bottom-six minutes or sitting up in the booth as a healthy scratch. One imagines he'll take a seat at the Garden tonight in favor of Vitale.

It makes zero sense to use Bennett or Megna in that role. They're both much better served playing scoring-line minutes in Wilkes-Barre rather than 8-10 minutes in Pittsburgh or sitting out entirely. The roster spot that you're talking about is being filled by Tangradi, not Jeffrey.

Jeffrey had his number called the least yesterday with a team low 15 shifts and 8:49 TOI. I don't think Jeffrey is going to look good in a 3rd or 4th line role as he's more of an offensive player but with five of six spots locked, he has little shot to get the 2nd line left-wing position. Tangradi is just keeping it warm until Beau Bennett gets a few more weeks to get back his strength and minutes up.

For the record my name is Jeffrey and my dumb-s**t boss has it misspelled on my paychecks and W-2's.

Perhaps we could trade him for Jeffery Lupul.

They don't have to lose Jeffrey. They've got 13 forwards on the roster. Jeffrey can serve as #13.

With so many games condensed in such a short period (48 games in 99 days?), Jeffrey's ability to play anywhere will help to give guys rest (Tangradi, 3rd and 4th lines, etc.)

I'm ok with the temporary moves. Can't be too hard on Jeffrey, as he wasn't the only rusty one.

*someone else mentioned above for Megna and Bennett getting top line time in WBS - probably a big consideration. One has to think Bennett is first on the bus if a forward gets hurt.

Jeffrey doesn't see the game again until injuries or trades happen. Vitale should be the sole owner of a roster spot purely because of the style he plays.

Vitale should be a fixture on the 4th, barring multiple injuries that require him to center the third. Jeffrey hasn't looked good yet, but its early.
