From the game against the flyers, did anyone else hear Pierre McGuire say that growing up Tangradi had a nickname of Little Box Car based on his size?
Little Box Car ----------------> Big Dawg?
How you like me now, The Snapshot? Two, count them, TWO, hockey nicknames.

Those two that he conked off of rangers skates back to back made me go hnmmmmmmmm

Missed that one.
Little Box Car, ------> Big Dawg, ------> Grady, -------> The Chihuahua
With four nicknames how could Snapper not like the guy? Well, other than more nicknames than goals, and such...

Just saying...
If the Penguins continue their current trend, then based on the preseason consensus around here I'd like to name this year's highlight film:
Failure To Suck: The 2013 Pittsburgh Penguins.

I think it may kill some of the posters on this board if the pens play to expectations this year

Are people really saying they suck? I see some concerned about the D, which I think is much better without Z and some anonymous folks seem to think Tangradi is terrible.
Are there really super pessimistic folks here?

Some random jumblings.
1. Evgeni Malkin looks like he's already played 30 games.
2. We have a pretty good power-play, finally.
3. Paul Martin was this teams best defenseman over the weekend.
4. We need a 2nd line winger.
5. Having two goaltenders like this is legitmately awesome, especially because they couldn't be more dissimilar in how they manage their business.
6. Vintage Orpik this weekend.
And, bank on this. When Crosby gets one on the board, watch those floodgates open.

39 now, to be exact.

Perhaps the best part is that Vokoun can be a legitimate mentor for Fleury. He's had some veteran backups, but none could bring the experience of being a long-time high-end starter that Vokoun has.

Wow for some reason I thought Malkin had played close to 50 in the KHL and that had me a bit concerned. But if he came here with 37 under his belt thats no different then he would be if the NHL season started on time. Good to know.

Biggest thing I noticed after just 2 games, the Rags and Flyers don't have a backup goalie anywhere close to the level of Vokoun, and in the Flyers case I'd argue any goalie. Both started their #1 in a 2nd game back-to-back, both got torched.
Fleury will need Vokoun to start a lot of games this year and thankfully Shero forsaw the lockout and made the move to gove up a pick to ensure he could start negotiating with Vokoun right away. Imagine if he went to the Flyers? Who would we have right now?

Well, GMRS didn't go after Vokoun with the lockout in sight. He went after him because the organization believed they leaned too heavily on Fleury through the season last year and wore him out by playoffs, almost entirely due to the absence of a reliable option behind him. So he goes out and gets Vokoun for #2 and Zatkoff for a #3 (and future #2). Goaltending situation improved 1000x.

Agree on everything but the PP. I know it's scoring goals but I can't figure out how unless they are really going to make Neal the trigger man because he can score with a wrister anywhere on the ice. And if that is the plan Neal will get shadowed and Bylsma won't adjust to it because he never does. The 5-3 was total garbage, should have taken 10 seconds to score with this talent.

The problem with that particular 5 on 3, and the PP is general, is that the players on the ice are not selfish enough.

Can't it just be possible that the Rangers did a good job defending on that 5 on 3? They blocked 3 Malkin shots in the last 5-10 seconds of the 2nd period.

I thought the PP was legit. I really dig Neal as a rover. Making Neal the rover still gives the ability for Malkin and Crosby to play positions they like and can also pull the trigger from.

Hmm, I'm not worried about Neal getting shadowed because that would open up Malkin, who can more than adequately pull the trigger.
