Looking back - creation of "Pigeon" logo/uniforms

Looks like vegas gold was considered back then too.

Id rather have "the pigeon" on a third jersey than any more blue.

I don't like the script logos.

I kind of like the "peeking Penguin" logo. It's like he missed his cue for the pigeon logo. "Am I on?"

I remember the Pgh Phantoms. I loved that logo. I remember Brian Trottier playing for them.

I liked that one too.

Some of those unis are a disaster, like even worse than most early 90s NHL stuff (looking your way Tampa Bay)

I agree on the script, I always thought it looked like a logo for a Country-Western band. We're not Nashville.

I also agree on the peeking guy. I kind of like it.

Skating Penguin won the cup 3 times, pigeon 0. That's all I need to know.

In semi-related news...

I read that the Pens are on track for a new third jersey that is NOT WC-related for next season.

http://www.icethetics.info/blog/2013/1/ ... -2013.html

Here's hoping there will be a return of the mean 1990-1992 skating penguin!

Diagonal Pittsburgh please. Or at least a return to the darker gold. I still don't really like Vegas gold

The Vegas gold wasn't so bad when it was shiny...the business-casual khaki is a horrible compliment to our black and white color scheme. The "yellow" of the early 90s really stood out in a good way. I hope I get to see Crosby and Malkin flying around in one of those jerseys someday.

Yeah I don't know why but i really miss those Pigeon uniforms. Also liked the Diagonal away jersies. Brings back the memories.
Definately like the yellow gold better than the Vegas gold.

I hate the grey in this one. They need to make it the yellow color all the way around.

I always hated how Boston and us shared the same colors. I prefere it much more with the Vegas gold. A twist to a already classic jersery. Once lemieux bought the team he insisted on going back to the old uniforms with the Vegas gold. By far a great decision. Our jerserys right now are my favorite of all the ones the team had so far.

Maybe it's because I grew up in the 90's with the "pigeon" logo and never really knew the current logo until it was re-instated in the 00's, but I've always liked the pigeon logo too. I do like the current logo better but I never had a dislike for the pigeon as many others do.

And yes please to bringing back the Steelers/Pirates "yellow" gold. It just looks better and I personally like all of our teams having the same colors. I remember something about Mario saying they wouldn't bring it back though because they wanted Crosby's era to have it's own "identity" with the vegas gold and not be associated with the teams of the past...IDK, maybe I'm just imagining that but I thought I remembered reading it somewhere a few years ago when people were talking about what our second WC uni's would be.

Forget the school bus yellow! Too much Vegas gold at the Consol. I also liked the diagonal Pittsburgh, however, it screams too much of the Rags. I do like some of the things done down at WB-S with the muscular penguin, but can't see going there either. My guess it will just be some tweeks to the current ones. God knows whatever it is; it will sell.

All they have to do is use the Cup era uniforms and they'll sell like mad. Plus, born trade will have a head start...

I can't imagine going back to yellow at this point.... the vegas gold kind of defines the modern Penguin team. I do agree that it was better when it was shiny. I'd love to see a well-designed new third jersey that isn't a throwback style. Maybe a modern jersey with the scarfed penguin or something.

Anyone know where I can get a .jpeg file of the "Peeking Penguin" logo?
I collect weird/alternate Pens logos for my screensaver at work and that is one I don't have yet. Doesn't seem to be anyway to copy the image of off the site that is linked to in the op.

Thanks

The streamlined Penguin was worn for fourteen seasons by legendary players such Mario Lemieux, Jaromir Jagr, Ron Francis, Joe Mullen, Bryan Trottier, Tom Barrasso, Kevin Stevens, Ulf Samuelsson, Larry Murphy, Martin Straka, Alexei Kovalev, Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Marc-Andre Fleury

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Crosby, Malkin and Fleury have never worn that pigeon logo have they? Maybe Fleury?
