I had nothing against Sneep, but he didn't seem like he was coming up at any point. Both he and Strait have been around for a while after their college careers. They're both 25, they aren't young for players that haven't yet cracked the NHL lineup.

Mark Eaton > Carl Sneep

Looking at Eaton's career stats, I never realized he spent 4 years as a Pen.. seemed much shorter. Can't decide if that is a good or bad thing. Still, I would much rather have the NHL tested Eaton over the unproven Sneep. Sneep is not longer a prospect so why keep him around if there are better options?

Eaton missed long stretches in his first couple seasons here with injuries. I seem to recall him getting boarded in San Jose and missing most of the 2006-07 season.

I know Strait and Sneep aren't the types of guys that bring much return in a trade....but this deep group of defensemen we assembled was supposed to net us some sort of assets in return. I realize these guys aren't Despres, Morrow, Harrington, etc...but it seems like a bit of a waste to lose these 2 guys for nothing.

When it comes to guys like Goligoski....the Neal/Nisky trade was amazing. Can't hit a Home Run like that every time.

When it comes to guys like Strait, Sneep, N. Johnson, etc...I'd like to think Shero could somehow pull off what he did with the Letestu trade. Get at least something in return before we give guys away. (not saying Sneep or Strait = Letestu of course. He was somewhat proven.)

Agree, he was in Wheeling a lot this year mostly because Bortuzzo, Despres and Strait were in WBS. But he was outplayed by Morrow, Dumoulin and Samulesson too. A lot of people had high hopes for the both of them when we drafted them in 2006.

Amazing that no one from that draft is still in the organization now.

I don't think the plan was to get nothing for Strait. They didn't trade him after all. He simply didn't prove he deserved to be here over Lovejoy/Engellend, etc...and he had to be put on waivers. Sneep is just a prospect that never panned out, at all. He's a former second rounder, but could barely do enough to keep himself in the AHL. I'll take the 7th rounder as opposed to watching him waste a season in Wheeling and then leave the organization in the summer.

I remember when we drafted Sneep and Strait, everyone liked it. Even Jesse picked them as two people they should draft. I remember thinking these two would be part of the future on defense. Bummer. Another second round pick failure to add to the list.

Had to check the other day to see if he was still in the organization; so not really a big loss. However, if could signal the beginning of other things to come. I just can't see them keeping 8 D-men up here much longer, something has to give.

Pens did get a 3rd round conditional pick, so he was not let go for ..... nothing.

Maybe this was seen as a make up for the Gogo for Nisky, Neal trade?

Had to make room for Eaton, which seems simple to me.

No idea, as I don't get too involved with that stuff. I just remember that being something discussed a few weeks back.

To get anything at all for a guy who spent time in Wheeling this seasons seems like a good deal to me.
