Had the Pens re-signed Talbot...

Postby Steve Dave on Fri Jan 25, 2013 2:17 pm

Would he have worked on Malkin's line as a third wheel?
Kunitz Crosby Dupuis
Talbot Malkin Neal
Just curious what everyone's thoughts are. There is a piece of me that misses him. He helps the Flyers PK and chipped in 19 goals last year along with 4 in 11 playoff games.

I think Shero wanted to keep him, but for that salary...eh, no.

he'll disappear in philly like he did here. he banked enough street cred last year to pounce on philly bar skanks with impunity.

As I recall, he's pulling 4th line duty these days.
I liked Talbot, but he's right where he should be.

He seems to be too inconsistent. He had a great year last year, and he was really good for us in the 2009 playoffs, but he couldn't have fit in top six duty consistently for the payday he got. Which is sad, because he's one of my all time favorites.

Yes, he is now on the 4th line, even with a fully healthy Flyers roster.

I wouldn't want him there. I like the guy, but he is a penalty killer 3-4th line ginder, not the scoring type winger you would want with Neal and Malkin.

I don't know if he'd be an upgrade over the options now, but he wouldn't be a good option.

So Kennedy at $2 million is fine but $1.75 million for Talbot is too much?

.15/.23 goals per game regular season vs playoffs for Talbot and .21/.14 for Kennedy. Neither great but I'd rather have Talbot over Kennedy and that's the choice Shero made last year.

Not a great option but Talbot would have been better than Tangradi, Jeffrey and probabky Kennedy,

A friend of mine out of Philly said that the fans there are souring on Talbot and peg him as a potential buyout candidate for the Flyers. Of course, the biggest buyout name they have is Bryzgalov, but Talbot's contract always appeared to be one that they signed knowing the player wouldn't finish it with the team.

As a fourth liner, I would love to see him return to Pittsburgh someday -- of course, on the cheap.

He played on a line with Coutiere(sp?) and Voracek last night, shutting down the Rangers top line. Also, the Flyers are without Hartnell, Briere and Rinaldo.
So they aren't exactly healthy.

I hope I am wrong, but he seems to be the type of guy who is more valuable than what he appears to be, especially come playoff time. He was crucial in the Pens Cup win. With all the video, coaching, etc., teams are able to neutralize top lines when it really matters. It seems like you need that type of a difference maker come the playoffs.

Skating, shooting and effort to name a few. Max is a good Penalty killer and when he is motivated a decent agitator. Kennedy goes hard every single shift. I don't understand anyone who doesn't see that.

Talbot took whole games off. He is a part-time bum who had a big game in a 7th game. He lived off that long enough.

So if Kennedy is so good at all of those why doesn't he ever play the PK? Generally guys who are good skaters and never give up play the PK. Yet he's always absent and Shero has to go out and get Richard Park.

I liked Max but is time with the Pens has come and gone. That being said, if he were to return, the Pens could dump Tangradi by the side of the road somewhere and give Max his old number back.

He doesn't have the brain for the pk. But big deal. There's never a shortage of penalty killing forwards. They're a dime a dozen. You don't pay a premium for those guys.

So if a guy doesn't play PK he isn't good, but a guy who does, is? Craig Adams is better than James Neal then?
