A suggestion for Root Sports

Postby pittsoccer33 on Fri Jan 25, 2013 2:57 pm

I would really like to see a feature, either for Inside Penguins Hockey or pregame/intermission, about the Penguins theme song that seems to be called Boys of Winter. Who wrote it, who owns it, who did the recording heard in the late 80s/early 90s, why is it not available anywhere, etc.

I'd settle for a production that isn't awful game in and game out.

I'd prefer audio that doesn't go up and down as the game goes on.

They can start by not zooming into players faces and not missing faceoffs/goals/action by showing the podunk crowd.

Was it me, or did the area around center ice gradually get brighter throughout the game? Not sure if it was a lighting issue in the arena or if it was ROOT trying to adjust.

And yes, please, please, PLEASE, less zoom-in shots of the players and especially the crowd.

Soooo i guess that HNIC guy has no impact on the production quality. Same pathetic camera choices as always. Oh well.

I would like to see more lighting of the upper bowl so that it does not appear as murky darkness in the background on ice-level camera shots. The Pens and Root Sports should want to showcase the capacity crowds by not having a large portion sit in darkness that cannot be seen on TV. (Check the bright upper bowl on Bruins' telecasts from TD Garden.) During play stoppages the cameras should pan the capacity crowd (but wide-angle, not close-in shots of a few fans) just as you often look around the stands when you are at the game.

When the Pirates have a capacity crowd, Root often shows the packed stands. When it's a tiny crowd, they hardly show the stands. That's probably the right approach. If the Pens ever return to smaller crowds, they can darken the upper bowl so empty seats up there are not visible.
