How do you know who has been watching hockey for how long? Is it embedded in our usernames?

People who spend their entire lives around hockey get fired all the time for not being able to create a winning situation. Sometimes it's the lack of talent and sometimes it's because they can't adjust their personal or game style to their personnel. Sometimes it's so obvious that the coach has lost the team or his system isn't working that it's intuitively obvious to even the most casual observer. When the same mistakes get made time and again over the course of two or more seasons it's reasonable to ask if the coach and GM are capable of putting a stop to it.

Some nights it looks like Dan's lost the team or he's not making corrections. I do think that most of what is wrong with the team could be fixed with some adjustments to personnel on the bottom two lines and some grit on defense (forwards and defensemen). I wouldn't fire Dan without some more time and some personnel changes. He's earned it.

I'm a firm believer that Ed Olzyck could coach this team to the playoffs year in and year out. I'm actually somewhat positive that as long as a stick boy stood there and addressed line changes, this team could make it to the playoffs without a coach. In other words, I think Bylsma gets too much credit.

Also, Crosby and Malkin aren't 21 anymore. They are in their prime and as far as I'm concerned... And from what I have witnessed over the last 4 years... We are wasting away opportunity at an alarming rate.

I just hope Shero's love affair with Dan Bylsma hits a snag before these guys are staring down the barrel at their 30's.

I is time for a change and something has to give. But just like MAF, Danny boy gets a free pass because he won a CUP. That is ancient history and it is now going into 2014. Things must change in order to move forward. Let the ax fall, the sooner the better

Actually Randall, I nominate you for the coaching position. I'd rather see you there than Bylsma ( =

A three game slump isn't going to get anyone fired. :face:

Bylsma is an incredibly overrated coach. He was badly outcoached last night by Craig fing Berube.

Case in point; Last night, face off in the Pens end. Berube sends out his first line. Does Bylsma counter with Sid? Geno? No. He counters with his fourth line and also throws out Engelland just to make it better. No other coach in the NHL would have done that. Worse possible match up for the Pens but because it was all those guys turn to go out there and Bylsma system is perfect, he does it.

What happens? Best shift of the night for Philly where they get a bunch of chances and take momentum. Flyers get their second line out ,forcheck the heck out of Bortuzzo, while Engelland, dead tired from the last shift, fails to cover the slot and Philly scores.

That goal was a direct result of something a pee wee coach would not have done. Coaching is a giant problem with this team. Among others.

DB apologists will make excuses no matter what the outcome. It's pointless to argue with them.

Put your egos aside. What is more likely? You are all right and Bylsma is a bad coach who gets poned when coaches match him, or we know nothing and coach bylsma is a good coach who was picked to coach the US Olympic team due to his knowledge???

Curious to know

He was picked to coach because Shero is GM.

I don't disagree. But I think it's much more simple than that.

Like any business, it's results driven.

When you have some of the best tools in the business you need to execute.

If DB were the coach of the Sabres we'd be having a much different conversation.

There's a "window of opportunity". The Pens window is now.

None of us are content with contending, it's about playing on the "Big Stage". The SCF.

I'm not confident that the current coaching staff is making the best use of their existing assets.

Flame me for feeling that way, but having been a STH in '83 through '95 I've seen what Pierre Cramer and Badger Bob have both done. DB is somewhere in between.

Somewhere out there the next HoF coach is waiting for his opportunity. Does anyone really think his nme is Dan Bylsma???

Hell of a lot of conjecture in that post, EPP.

Also, Bylsma is worse than Ron Rolston? I want what you're smoking, because that's just absurd.

Perhaps all the other teams in the league should fire their coaches, because the majority of the guys they have don't look like "future HoF coaches". Are you serious right now?
