6th winger... should be...Joe Vitale?

Postby PensFromDC on Sun Jan 27, 2013 5:13 am

And the next guy in line for the Malkin-Neal line is:

Joe Vitale?

I know, I know, hes a center and no one has even mentioned him as an option; but it seems to me like he is playing very well. His stats aren't there, sure, but hes been on the 4th line and seems slightly possessed with the puck right now. Hes making good decisions and seems like a miniature Malkin puck handler.

Vitale is the opposite of Kennedy too. He is decent with the puck and when he does shoot, its hard and on net. I'm tired of seeing terrible kennedy shoot and miss/ take low percentage shots/ make bad passes (or none at all)/ or be stripped of the puck. Hes fast and shoots a lot, hardly justify's him as a top 6. The 2nd line needs a grinder that wont cough up the puck.

We have the depth with all our centers healthy, so why not give him a shot?

cooke-sutter-kenny (this line needs to stay together!)

(I'd still prefer to give BB a shot with crosby and move kunitz down, but that's not going to happen)

cooke would earn that spot wayyyyyyy before they defer to vitale... Joey V can crash and bang as good as any 4th liner, but its the hard working ones that ALSO chip in goals with some regularity that earn top 6 time, and at this point TK and Cooke are those guys... tangradi had his shot, give the 20 goal scorers their opportunity

Yes, destroy more lines instead of doing something that makes sense.

There's a couple options that make sense here:

24-87-48
14-71-18
15-16-9
10-46-27

Or

14-87-9
15-71-18
24-16-48
10-46-27

Main thing, stop screwing with what works, stop playing players out of their best positions and stop forcing Tangradi into the lineup. I've never seen a team work around a player who is physically incapable of playing 10+ minutes when they have a guy who can essentially play anywhere on the roster with Jeffrey.

I like this as a temporary thing. That Crosby line played well together last year and I like dupuis better when he's not attached to Sid.

But this isn't a lineup I want to go into the playoffs with. Bottom line is that we need a wing. And he isn't on the roster right now.

Shero is going to have to make a trade one of these days and get Sid his wing, or move Neal to his wing and get Malkin someone. These Kunitz/Dupuis/Kennedy line mates really do get old....

I thought Geno needs a wing these days, not Sid. Maybe we just need a center for Tangradi?

6th winger means 6th forward? As in second line wing?

Wouldn't the sixth winger be the third line winger? I am confused

Obviously Vitale is not a permanent Top-6 option in any capacity.

But if a guy like Glass has gotten a look there every once in a while during a game in a crash-and-bang role (a la Talbot back in the day with Geno), I don't see why Vitale isn't deserving of the same thing, seeing as he's been our most consistent bottom-6 forward in that regard, and has even better wheels.
