"Filler" articles in the PG and Trib...do you read them?

Ok....how many of you read the "filler" articles they put out? I'm not talking about Pens recaps...I'm talking about the "I have to write a Pens article for my daily beat" article.

Here are some from the past month from the PG:

"A Lion In Another Winter"
"Close friends, Malkin, Gonchar foes on ice"
"Niskanen fits right in on left side"
"Sutter keeping No. 3 line solid for Penguins"

The Trib does these, but the Trib seems to be more "informative" (which I personally like).

if the filler article is about a 3rd or 4th liner, or a defensemen, the article will always mention that "he can chip in on the penalty kill"

I don't like Rossi's fluff because he writes too much fiction into his stories. He's an awesome beat reporter, but he lacks the composure of a real sports writer like Dave Molinari. He fits better with the Steve Simmons make-it-up-as-you-go crowd that is beginning to border on unofficial blogging rather than reporting.

with print journalism now being tweeted/FB; what is the news and what is filler/fluff? Journalists never thought they would have to compete with regulars and blog... while meeting print deadlines.
They have to change with what gets their newspapers money and to stay current.
Since I get the print edition, I read it all- except for the stripper advertisements.
