Mark Madden, Horse Head, and CEC

That seems to be a recurring theme for a lot of activity on The Chive and other "college age" sites. Don't know what it is really all about though.

Madden should identify more with the other end of the Horse though.

On his show the other day, Madden was saying something about the highlights of an Edmonton game that showed someone with the horse mask right behind the goal and how he (Madden) thought it was funny. Then he suggested Pens fans wearing it as well. I don't know if there's any more to it.

That face kind of creeps me out and I don't like it and I think it's stupid. Why would any credentialed media member promote such nincompoopery? Why would any person, for that matter, insist upon that...if you want to spend your time in a horse costume, you could probably find a cheaper place to make an ass of yourself than a Penguins game...

I agree with Madden about the fact that there's way too much loud and extracurricular stuff going on at CEC during the games. And that PA announcer....UGH. I think he was trying to start something along the lines of a mascot or terrible towel type of thing, like they have the octopus in Detroit or the rats in Florida. Those masks don't do much for me. But they are slightly more tolerable than much of the other hijinx that goes on during the games.

I think he was trying to start something along the lines of a mascot or terrible towel type of thing, like they have the octopus in Detroit or the rats in Florida. Those masks don't do much for me. If you want enthusiasm from an educated crowd, shut off all the crap and play the **** organ. Vince Lascheid knew how to work the crowd. It is a lost art in NHL buildings now.

Crowds need to be allowed to breath, to have leaders with schtick, sections with schticks, etc. That stuff doesn't happen among the high decibel Megadeath bursts and find the puck under the Zamboni games.

Nobody identifies anything with all of the stuff that happens on the jumbotron, with the exception of Kiss Cam and crowd dancing to Cotton-eye Joe. It's all generic BS aimed at fake ambiance.

He's knows what he's talking about & is very funny.

The bloggers who whine about him wish they could interview 66.

Yeah, it's funny that he gets so much access to 66, etc. 66 holding a solid opinion of him and going to him for exclusive interviews speaks volumes as to how he is viewed by the athletes and owners in town (well, not the Pirates). I've started listening to his show in Philly, it's just so nice hearing hockey talk.
