Cryers Game in Late March

My gf and I live in Las Vegas, and while we get to see the Pens on occasion in Phoenix, or LA, this season that was, of course, an impossibility. So this weekend, we made hotel reservations, bought plane tickets, and scored some awesome seats for 3/24 and 3/26 (Philly and Montreal) . We're so freaking excited, since neither of us have ever been in Pittsburgh. My gf can't wait to heckle clown-face Hartnell and the rest of those creeps in person; actually I can't either. Anyway, we're going to be staying right downtown, not far from Consol Energy Center. Are we going to be close enough to easily get to the Pens practice rink, in case the team actually practices the next day after the Cryers game? What else would y'all that live there recommend for a couple of out-of-towners to see/do?

There's really only a few things to do in Pittsburgh:

1. Drink
2. Movies
3. Eat

This is why we are such a big sports town. You can drink almost everywhere, so here's some clutch food places:

Mineos Pizza in Squirrel Hill - Murray Avenue
Peppy's Cheesesteak in Strip District - Penn Avenue

If you want to try some of pittsburgh gimmick places try Primanti Brothers & Quaker Steak N Lube. Both aren't bad, out of towners might enjoy them, but in my personal opinion they are overrated.


EDIT: And an incline ride to the top of Mt. Washington to take some photos with you and your wife wearing Pens gear, would be a nice photo. Hope you enjoy.

Southpointe (practice facility) is not that far out of town if you have a car during your stay.

Go to Southside after a game and drink. Get a Primanti sandwich (from the original Strip District location) just to say you've had one (its Pittsburgh after all).

I'm with Nizzy. Grandview Ave on Mt. Washington is the ticket (if you have a rental car) . Either incline is okay (or maybe both). The Monongehela Incline probably offers the best view if you take that one (park in Station Square at the lower end of the incline on W Carson Street & walk to the incline station). The Duquense Incline (also on W Carson St with parking nearby) is closer to where the 3 rivers meet with a good view of PNC Park (baseball), Heinz Field (football) and Point State Park. Hard Rock Cafe is located in the Station Square area so you can kill 2 birds with one stone if/when you take the Monongahela Incline. Now I'm from New Orleans and have never been here but I plan on taking it in when I visit from 2/19/-2/25. It's called "NOLA on the Square" and has Cajun fare. Here's some info from the "opentable" website. If I remember I'll give you a review when I return (who better than a resident of the Big Easy?).

Agreed. And the Carnegie Museum and Scaife Art Museum at the Carnegie. Go to the South Side during the day, see the funky little shops.

The National Aviary. The Zoo. The Carnegie Science Center. The Inclines.

Heinz History Center & the Sports Museum are a must. There are hundreds of new restaurants in the East neighborhoods as well as in the Downtown area. As FC says, The Strip is a great way to spend a Saturday or Sunday morning and find a great place for breakfast.

Also, opposing teams' have been staying at the Fairmont recently, so if you hang out in the lobby bar before and after the game you may see them coming and going.

I recommend going to Shales on 5th avenue across street from the arena for at least a drink. That place is happening when the pens play and if they score 5 goals, you get free chilli afterwards.

You can't sit here and say "pittsburgh has things to do" You can literally cross those things off a list in 2 full days tops. As a born and raised pittsburgher, whose proud as heck to live here and wants to stay his entire life... you can drink, see a movie, or eat good food.
