For those that follow our prospects,

Postby Steve Dave on Sun Feb 10, 2013 7:49 pm

which of these three is most NHL ready and could find themselves on the club next season?

Dumoulin (22) 6'4" 219
Morrow (20) 6'1" 204
Harrington (20) 6'2" 205

...and who would they replace?

Despres Letang
Orpik Martin
Niskanen Engelland
Bortuzzo

living in erie and watching London Knights alot. Harrington is solid but not flashy. I believe Maata will eventually be more of physical defensive dman.....you forget pouliot?

Harrington is closest to Martin, Morrow to Niskanen I guess. In terms of readiness, they're fairly close...though it's probably not ideal for any of them to be penciled into the top six opening day next year. Could change though my year's end...

In a perfect world without injuries or trades, none of the above should be on the NHL roster next year to start the season. Defensemen should be given ample time in the AHL to get accustomed to the pro game (speed etc.) before they are counted to contribute on the NHL level. If you rank them based in the order they will eventually make the NHL its probably (1) Morrow (2) Dumoulin, and (3) Harrington.

Dumoulin most NHL ready in my opinion

Dumoulin.

In terms of what they're capable of/what coaches expect of them, Morrow's game is much more diverse and skill-oriented. Dumoulin's game isn't simple, but it's simpler than Morrow's. Give Morrow the pedigree advantage, but I bet Dumoulin establishes himself in the NHL first.

I don't think it comes as a shock to anyone that I'm going to say Harrington, though I haven't seen Dumoulin play so I'm a bit limited. Harrington was groomed to be a shut down defenseman in London and has gradually improved his puck moving and offensive play.

It certainly doesn't hurt the outlook for Harrington having Dale Hunter rave about him as a player and a person given the amount of talent that's passed through London.
