I just have no words for anyone who thinks that was intentional. Even the vast majority of people on the internet realize it was unintentional and normally you have every troll in the universe out in full force over Matt Cooke.
Whatever you do, then, avoid the main board on HF at all costs. I admit I leaped over there about 30 seconds about the injury and the thread about it was already heading to page 3.
When will I learn?
I feel terrible for Karlsson. I do. He's a fantastic talent to watch and was building a great season for himself--almost putting the Sens on his back since Spezza has been out. But this kind of stuff happens to hockey players in the course of playing on skates with sharp blades. Ask Kevin Bieksa, Teemu Selanne, Robert Lang...
...ask Sidney Crosby.
Sure, on both sides of the coin (Steckel hit, for one, with heated debate; omgz Crozbee slewfooted a Ranger again!!!1! on the other)
But Sid's a different beast anyway. A 20-page thread erupts when he farts in someone's general direction.
I know the Canadian media will probably cry until Cooke gets suspended I figure instead of Lebron, Bosh and Wade, it needs to be Cooke, Bettman and Daly's heads instead

Nope. The Canadian media is pretty unanimously in belief of it being an accident. You'll probably get a few Ottawa locals whining about it, but nothing major.
"We all know who's involved in it," Ottawa coach Paul MacLean said about Cooke. "That's just the way it is. The injury to Erik was unfortunate and it happens on a nothing play that could've potentially been whistled down."

Whistled down for what?
I think the puck hit the mesh behind the net shortly before the assaultincident.

Also, a number of former players and at least one current (Ian Lapierre) are tweeting in defense of Cooke, saying it was an accident.
