My sense is Eugene Melnyk will not be fined by the NHL for his comments to TSN on Matt Cooke but I would expect a warning from the league

He's entitled to his opinion... But as an owner he's bound to protecting the interest of the league. He should be fined and largely. He's questioned the integrity of the oversight authority. Completely different from what Mario said and did regarding headshots.

Coming from a Canadian....WTF are you talking about?
"They way they do things up there"? Thats a pretty broad paint brush you've got there....

Most Canadians I have met are laid back, pretty cool people. Don't know where the "arrogance" thing comes from. I've always enjoyed it up there. Progressive, polite people for the most part.

Think it's too soon to call up Murray and seeing if Gonchar would be traded? :pop:

In fact, has he ever been suspended for anything ever? He's a by-the-code guy pretty much and I even support what he did to Cooke after the game to be honest...a star player got hurt, Neil wanted to take him to task for it, accidental or not, Neil should have gone over and started pushing him around...show that he cares about his teammate...the game was over, why not? And I'm not even a fan of fighting really...but Neil is a pretty stand-up guy actually...

Melnyk makes of a fool of himself enough in the article, no reason to drag anything else into it really...

Gotta say I don't know how Neil has escaped suspension. Sucker punching Letang, elbowing Andy MacDonald, his headshot to Chris Drury.

I don't either some guys, Ovechkin comes to mind, don't seem to get what they deserve. Also this is a franchise that employed Jarko Ruutu. So, he can apologize to the League, the Penguins, and Matt Coooke and then shut his yap for a while.

Correct, that's why I said "a franchise" and I also don't recall the Pens calling for a lifetime ban on anyone so we're not hypocritical - on this point at least.

I agree 10000000000%

Or maybe the Cooke should sue him. A lot of people are going to read his comments without looking at the replay or considering any facts and assume that Cooke is guilty.

With that said, I don't actually think it would be appropriate for a hockey player to sue over words. But Melnyk should be strongly held accountable for his damaging words.

You're more wrong than Melnyk here. Do you really think you know enough about Canadians to make a statement like this? Seriously? Do you include Mario, Sid, Saint Ron and many other Pens stars in this group?

In fact, your statements serve to humanize Melynk, as I'm sure you are also responding emotionally.

You can't generalize the population of any nation like that. Especially countries as large and diverse as the US and Canada. US Citizens living in eastern states probably have more in common with Canadians in Ontario with their countrymen in the US West.
