Nonstopulous

Postby pcm on Sun Feb 17, 2013 11:46 am

I just learned WBS had signed Tom Konstopulous to a professional tryout a while ago. Does this make him available to the Pens to callup? I always liked this guy. High energy, kills penalties, fights... pretty much a clone of Joe Vitale.

He's signed to a minor league deal. Doubt you will ever see him here again, or the NHL for that matter.

Yes, a valuable commodity...that's been passed around like a collection plate and is clinging to the shower drain before exiting down the chute of pro hockey with the rest of the hairballs and dingleberries.

Well, he may be another ham & egger or a hairball down the drain or whatever, but really, how much worse could he possibly be than Tanner Glass and Tyler Kennedy (combined 32g, 2 pts, -5)

Is there "a lot worse" than that? I don't think Tangradi was "a lot worse" than Kennedy. :pop:

How many yinzers does it take to change a light bulb? Five, one to screw in the bulb and the other four to talk about how great the old one was. Please stop living in the past. Kostopulous and Mark Eaton are broken down former NHLers who couldn't find a job elsewhere. Shero gave them a minor league tryout for being good foot soldiers in the past, so they can continue to live the hockey dream a little longer. Nothing more, nothing less.

To be fair, Kostopulous played in the NHL last year, Eaton was on Long Island.

Kostopoulos could end up on the pens NHL roster if some bottom six people are moved at the deadline. I think he could still contribute on a 4th line role for this team.

I don't really think he could, but at least he was recently a relatively meaningful player.

True, but the fact remains that neither could even land an AHL deal over the summer.

I haven't seen him skate at WBS to see how he looks, but what do you need a 4th liner to do; forecheck, hit, cycle the puck in the offensive zone, and generrally be a pain in the a** to the opponent. Doesn't need much more than that.

our team must be pretty bad if we have a pressing need for guys who can't make it into the NHL like boychuk and uncle jesse.

Not sure that anybody said we have a pressing need for these guys, but if Craig Adams didn't have a NHL contract on July 1 2012, do you really think he would be employed by a NHL team currently? He would probably be playing in the AHL looking for an opportunity like these guys.
