Correct me if I'm wrong but...

Postby malksby8771 on Sun Feb 17, 2013 5:18 pm

Sidney Crosby has scored 135 or 136 points (depending on that last goal in Buffalo) over his last 82 games played. No other player in the NHL other than Malkin has over 100 points in their own last 82 games played. No player since Mario Lemieux in 1995-1996 has scored 130 points in a season. These numbers have to be wrong, right? RIGHT?!?

Edit: I can't count! 136 points in his last 82 games. Lol sorry about that. Still the rest appears to be true. Best scoring pace since the Lemieux days of the early 1990s.

He has 127 points in his last 79 regular season games played. 1.61 points per game.

127 over the past 3 seasons (79 games, 1.6 ppg). 136 over 82 if you want to cherry pick back to 09-10.

Very impressive, but there's a difference between doing that over three seasons and doing it in one.

Not the best since 1995-1996:

Lemieux
last 3 games of '1997: 1 G, 3 A = 4 Pts
43 games in '2001: 35 G, 41 A = 76 Pts
24 games in '2002: 6 G, 25 A = 31 Pts
first 12 games in '2003: 8 G, 21 A = 29 Pts

82 consecutive regular season games: 50 G, 90 A = 140 Pts

Also, Jagr had 146 points in 82 consecutive games in '99 & '00.

True but I simply said no player since 1995-1996 has scored more than 130 points in a season and Sid is on pace to when he finally gets a full season under his belt. Man we are lucky as Pens fans to have had so many great scorers though, eh?

The more impressive thing about Sid's stats so far this season is that the numbers are so strong despite a slow start, an inconsistent powerplay, and having played 22 regular season games in basically 2 calendar years prior to the start of the season.

All the early panic on here seems senseless now, doesn't it? He needed some games to shake the rust off, and has looked incredible since.

I'm still a bit concerned about Malkin though. He seems to be playing so loose with the puck, it's unnerving at times. He needs to simplify things and get his groove back.

I was about to say...the panic was about Crosby and Malkin, half of the panic seems senseless. I have no problem with Malkin being cold for a while, I just fear him going on another season or two of coasting.

Lesky made the same post about Sid scoring 136 in his last 82 on hfboards. Got a lot of hits there. Interesting seeing non pens fans perspectives. Here's the URL.

I'm not sure which was funnier in that thread. The guy saying he would rather have Toews than Sid, or the guy who insisted there was some league wide conspiracy to award Sid secondary assists

Only got to like page three, but the best lolz for me was the "East goalies suck" argument. Yeah, he plays in the same division as crappy Brodeur and suckwagon Lundqvist.

anyone who doesn't think Crosby is currently the best player in hockey immediately loses all credibility. That's all there is to it.

For note, best 82 game stretches, regular season only (2000-2001 season and later only):

Ovechkin (goals and points): 12/27/2009 -> 1/1/2011 (or 12/29/2009 -> 1/3/2011) - 66 goals, 56 assists, 122 points

Stamkos (goals and points): 1/19/2010 -> 1/20/2011 (or 1/21/2010 -> 1/21/2011) - 63 goals, 50 assists, 113 points

Crosby (points): 2/10/2006 -> 2/22/2007 - 39 goals, 98 assists, 137 points

Crosby (goals): 1/3/2010 -> 11/21/2011 - 62 goals, 79 assists, 131 points

Malkin (goals and points): 12/20/2007 -> 12/22/2008 - 51 goals, 76 assists, 127 points

Jagr (Points): 10/15/2005 -> 10/14/2006 - 52 goals, 75 assists, 127 points

Jagr (Goals): 3/23/2004 -> 4/8/2006 - 56 goals, 66 assists, 122 points
That's split over the lockout obviously. His 54 goals in the first 82 games after the lockout are his best purely post-lockout total.

Thornton (goals): 1/1/2001 -> 1/10/2002 (also 1/5/01, 1/6/01, 1/9/01 through 1/12/02, 1/14/02, 1/17/02 respectively) - 41 goals, 51 assists, 92 points

Thornton (points): 10/5/2005 -> 10/5/2006 (also 10/7/05, 10/8/05, 10/10/05, 10/20/05 through 10/7/06, 10/9/06, 10/12/06, 10/13/06 respectively) - 29 goals, 99 assists, 128 points

Lemieux (goals): 12/27/2000 -> 11/23/2002 - 50 goals, 92 assists, 142 points

Lemieux (points): 12/30/2000 -> 11/27/2002 - 49 goals, 94 assists, 143 points

Kovalchuk (goals and points): 1/6/2009 -> 1/19/2010 - 60 goals, 48 assists, 108 points

Iginla (goals): 3/29/2007 -> 3/25/2008 - 54 goals, 48 assists, 102 points

Iginla (points): 11/28/2006 -> 12/16/2007 - 51 goals, 66 assists, 118 points

That's what they said about 99, too, so I guess this means 87 is pretty good.
