I don't understand why people think we want or need Ryan O'Reilly....he's a center that doesn't want to play wing. We just traded a guy just like that (Jordan Staal).

On top of that, Ray Shero's been scouting Minnesota. I'm pretty sure him, Chuck Fletcher, and Mike Yeo were not hanging out talking about the Minnesota winters.

He would have been great last year, but you can't carry the puck this year.

Yeah, we traded him because HE wanted out. Not because we wanted him to play wing and he wouldn't. The Pens offered him the same money as Carolina.

I would never trade either of those players for O'Reilly. I don't want to say I'd never trade either of those players, but it would take one hell of a serious of trade to offer up either of them.

Because HE wasn't happy playing 3rd line center behind Crosby and Malkin. So, you want to bring in O'Reilly at 5 mill per to do the same damn thing. Get it?

If Staal was willing to move to wing in Pittsburgh, they would have kept him. They weren't going to pay their 3rd line center $5 million a year. They're not going to pay a lesser 3rd line center $5 million per year.

I don't necessarily like it but Dallas makes the most sense as a trade partner.

Add Clutterbuck and Glencross and you have really solidified the top 9 forwards for a playoff push.

Glencross is signed at 2.55M for the next two seasons beyond this one. He is an absolute bargin at that price and I imagine Calgary will have zero interest in trading him.

Getting back to Hugo's genesis for this thread...

All the swirling rumors say that requests for O'Reilly are met with bold counter offers. Reportedly, PHL asked and COL said they want Couturier and a prospect in return. NYR aked, and they said Del Zotto and a prospect. Other rumors say they really want to get a right handed puck moving defenseman, especially now that Erik Johnson's health/future is in serious doubt.

Assuming that teams will wait-out COL and not give into the extreme demands (especially given they have very little traction in any deal), what if O'Reilly could be had for this:

COL receives (D) Matt Niskanen, (F) Tyler Kennedy, and a conditional (on O'Reilly resigning with Pittsburgh) pick in 2013 or 2014.

PIT receives (F) Ryan O'Reilly.

Would you do it?

If the deal was

PIT receives Ryan O'Reilly

PIT pays Ryan O'Reilly what he wants.

I wouldn't want them to do it.

To me, $4,000,000 would be very fair. Would he take it?

No. You don't give up assets if you don't even know the guy will sign.

Oh he'd sign...Shero would take Luca Bratsi along and make Ryan an offer he couldn't refuse.

PIT gets: Ron Hainsey
WIN gets: Tyler Kennedy, Kevin Veilleux, 4th Round Pick, and WIN 7th Round Pick

PIT gets: Clarke MacArthur
WIN gets: Dustin Jeffrey and PIT 3rd Round Pick

These trades are made up and should not be taken serious.

Here's a better question...what would it take to get Blake Wheeler?

PIT gets: Blake Wheeler
WIN gets: Dustin Jeffrey, Brian Dumolin, 2nd Rounder
