It Lent, so it’s a good time of year to repent for past transgressions. I would like to atone for my over-the-top bashing of Paul Martin over the past year and blaming him for literally anything that went wrong for the Penguins.
This season it looks like he has cast asunder his demons and transfigured into a different, NHL caliber blueliner.
Would anyone like to join me in the praises of the resurrected career of #7?
I really would not. When someone plays poorly, I will bash them for it. When they play well they get praise. Nothing happening now changes last year, and what happened last year has nothing to do with what he is doing now. Aside from that, I think its safe to assume he doesn't read anything here. IN case he somehow does...kudos Martin, you turned your game around.
Heck i had Shero buying out the guys contract at the end of the season. I give PM alot of credit he took it upon his self to relaunch his career in Pittsburgh and looks alot better and he is playing with a purpose.
Some posters felt and clearly have stated for the record.... Paul Martin was NEVER any good, could never be good, etc etc etc. Those are the people who should be eating crow, repenting, eating filet-o-fish, watching The Big Lebowski..... whatever it is that fixes past wrongs.
And I'm not pointing or stating about anyone in particular, just so you know. Sarcasm meter long broke on this board.
Yeah. Its like when Fleury was playing like ass a few seasons ago and started the year like 0-6-1 or something. All it took was for someone to point that out and we'd get bombarded with pictures of him holding the Cup or his save on Lindstrom. As if that changed the fact that at the current time he was playing awful. I dont all of the sudden feel like I have egg on my face for bashing Martin because he's playing well thru 16 games this year.
I still don't think Martin is THAT amazing. I think the defense/team in general can go as far as Orpik/Martin can take them. If Martin was 4M I'd be much happier about it. Guy just has to keep it together. He must have been hurt, or had a few nagging injuries because last year he was literally moving out of the way vs the Flyers. Just letting people go by him. It was pathetic.
mea maxima culpa~ my bad! Not that i'm a doubter, but waiting for the play-offs. i was wrong about sergei in 2007, will be thrilled to be wrong about martin. All of these pens know, the play-offs will be their redemption tour.
Martin was off both years. He is better this year as is Orpik, because they compliment each other. Michalek is the softest piece of trash I have seen in some time. His strengths (few though they are) were Martin's as well. We acquired them both with this idea of a shut-down pairing like a boxed set, and doggone we were going to play them that way. It NEVER worked from day 1 and it certainly was a playoff disaster.
