The next game I'll be able to attend is the 3/16 game against the NYR. How will the St. Patrick's day parade affect my ability to get to the game? Any thoughts or suggestions (on road closures, parking, best time to get to CEC, etc.)Thanks in advance.

I was planning on attending both games that weekend, but, after the comments so far, I'm not so sure about Saturday's game.

That would be why I sold my tickets to this game. It is a mess getting into town and parking for this game. I recommend you come in from the Oakland side and park up higher on 5th Avenue and walk down to the game. I have parked up past the old 5th Avenue Highschool several times without an issue, other than the walk. It will be sunny at 50 so go for it.

The things I see going on during this day would make any parent proud of their child.

if you can come in via bigelow blvd, 885, or from oakland on center or 5th you shouldnt have any problems.
ive parked on 5th, forbes, or a cross street up towards mercy for every game ive gone to as an adult. there are hundreds if not thousands of spots. no sense paying and waiting to leave a garage or lot.

Went to one of my few games from Central PA the other year inadvertently on the same day as Saint Patty's Parade (3-0 loss to Montreal two years ago). It took me about 1:15 from Monroeville to my hotel which I believe was the Wyndham right at the Point. We were coming into the city around 10:30 am. Good day but traffic was ridiculous so go, but go early.

What kind of traffic am I looking at coming down from the North Hills? I've been to the parade before, but I usually take a bus from the East. I'd like to get parked by the time the parade is starting.

How about trying this? Park at the casino and take the T to Steel City?

Might be the best plan out of them all. Park for free. Beer is cheaper.

That's not a bad option but I'm staying at the Doubletree on Saturday night, so I was hoping to park downtown.

Because of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, Penguins fans are reminded to allow extra travel time on their way to CONSOL Energy Center for the 1 p.m. game against the New York Rangers.
The parade starts downtown at 10 a.m.
Most CONSOL Energy Center parking lots will open at 10 a.m. The Melody Tent lot (upper lot) will open at 7 a.m. Event parking rates will be charged.
Gates at CONSOL Energy Center will open at 11:30 a.m.

Ha, I forgot about the T on the North Side! I can get the T, and then get off at steel plaza; above Grant Street. Or , get on at Gateway center!

The key is early.

Anybody have tips they'd be willing to share on parking spots up the hill from the arena or somewhere along 5th before it hits downtown? I've always parked downtown and walked up to the arena and have no idea what the parking options are on the other side of the arena.
I do kind of like the casino and T idea too, but like someone else above, I'm staying at a hotel downtown on Saturday night, so I'm figuring it would be more convenient to be parked somewhere closer.

Now I feel a little better about the corporate box tickets I was going to get that were given to a client at the last minute instead.

I was at the last afternoon game the same day as the parade and it wasn't TOO bad. I was coming from the North and the congestion on 279/579 was similar to playoff games- heavy but not gridlocked.
There were, however, large amounts of wandering drunk people which was entertaining.

Speaking from a bad experience, definitely avoid the Grant Street exit off the Parkway from either direction. The parade comes down Grant Street and turns right on the Blvd. of the Allies.
