I'm putting Tanner Glass on blast

What exactly is his role on this team? He in a margin toughguy. He is a marginal agitator. He's a marginal penalty killer. He's a marginal hitter.
He has below average offensive potential. I'm just not sold on the guy and his "grit".

He's too slow for our "system". Not sure why we signed him. Just think we could have signed Prust. Is Prust worth 2.5 million? I'd say so.

Looking forward maybe we should settle on Steve Ott.

He gets 10 minutes a game. Most pluggers still bring some plus-level quality justifying their existence. Whether PK, physical play, agitation, etc. He doesn't even do that well. BUT HE HAS THE MOST HITS ON THE TEAM. And so it goes.

glass isn't any good, but i'm sure there are plenty of guys like that filling out rosters all across the league. i wish he was a more impactful hitter and a better fighter, but i don't think he's quite bad enough to assemble a mob and grab torches. the only legit beef i have is that he's on a 2 year contract.

Glass is on pace for his worst season as a pro. Had 5 goals and 16 points last year. Prorated over a full season he'd be on pace for 114 hits....last year he had 246. 160 and 135 the years prior.

Having said that, I like him. Good on D, can fight if needed, good energy and grit. Vitale is a good fourth liner as well. Glass actually looked solid on line 2 for a game. He should be on line 3 in place of Kennedy.

Adams drags down the whole fourth line.

I not only think Glass is acceptable, I think he is quite good in his role. Every shift he skates hard forcing the puck, finishes his hits, and plays fine in his own end. In fact, I think the Adams, Glass, Vitale line has collectively played well. They exist to give the other three lines a rest, and I don't recall thinking they're ever a liability.

Glass criticism makes me question this board's analysis of other areas on the team. If you're upset the 4th line winger isn't scoring enough, what are you expectations of everyone else?

To be fair, would you have issues with the players that are making stupid plays in their lots of ice time? Or one player who plays 5 minutes a night making stupid plays. That being said, I don't disagree with your assessment either.

Really haven't seen much not to like. Contract would probably look better if he was a top 4 PKer, but the guys in front of him are good and he gives them depth.

as a unit, their play in their own end leaves a lot to be desired. +/- is a very limited stat, but it's not a terrible metric when looking at a 4th line. you don't expect that line to be a "+" or anything since offense isn't what they do, but it's 20 games in and their average rating is -6.3. that doesn't extrapolate well over a full season. and +/- aside, the eyeball test shows them running around in their own end way too much.

I don't think the criticism is he needs to be scoring more. At least, that's not why I am critical of him. His numbers are down, but I don't really care too much about that.

It is certainly magnified for a player if he gets 5 minutes and makes some bad choices in that time. Glass flips a puck out for no good reason and that's all I'll remember for the game from him.
