My trade deadline prediction:

Harrington + 2nd + Engelland for Stafford and Regehr

Penguins get big crease clearing / PKing defenseman, and a big RW (he's 6-2) who can score (@ 50 pts), kill penalties, is young (27) and signed for a decent Kunitz-esque contract.

Sabres get a stud on defense who should replace Regehr and solidify their otherwise shaky squad. And they get Harrington too ;).

Stafford is a huge underachiever.

That's a waste of arguably the team's best asset (not in the NHL) in Harrington.

His nickname is "Nancy Drew" for a reason.

I'll give them a 2nd for Regehr, hell, they can have Engelland too if it seals the deal. But they already have problems with one fringe NHLer that can't pull his head from his rear enough to be useful (Mike Weber), I doubt they want another...

Yeah a joke about Engelland. Stafford has been crap this year, on a team of crap (with a cherry on top in Vanek). But otherwise, he's pretty darn consistent as a 20g-20a player. Not sure how underachiever can be applied. His $4m contract is pretty affordable for a guy who's scored consecutive 50 pt seasons before this one, with 30 goals in 2011.

As for Harrington, you have to give to get. The Pens would add a top 4 dman and top 6 winger to a team that's already the best in the conference. Dealing from wealth here... And besides, Morrow and Poliout are both ahead of Harrington in the eyes of most people.

It's still a gross overpayment. You can get better for Harrington.

Can you? In 3 years when he's played some games in the NHL, sure. But Whitney, already on his second contract, who was touted as a top PMD in an era when those were all the rage got Kunitz and Tangradi. Stafford is probably viewed as a slightly more valuable asset than Kuntiz was at the time of the trade. Not by much, but still. Harrington is still a year or two away from the NHL. His upside is not all THAT much greater than Whitney's proven value at the time (obviously different styles), but his is totally unproven at a professional level.

I get the feeling its marshmello whip. I got 2 kid i see that stuff all the time. Its the only way we can get them to eat fruit, which after you add Marshmello whip (add cream cheese) kinds defeats the purpose. I tried to explain that to the wife but she will do what ever she wants.

Shero must be too busy analyzing numbers to make a trade:

@mirtle: In addition to James Neal, the Penguins said they used advanced stats when signing Tomas Vokoun last summer.

Who would possibly want to get stuck with stafford's contract? Neal gets payed just 1 mil more than him, and both kunitz and dupuis get payed less (and both likely will on their next contracts). That is just an awful contract that would sink the pens. How do you afford Letang, Malkin, and Sutter when you are paying that joke 4 mil for 20 goals?

Miro Satan and his $3.5 mil didnt stay on the 1st line with Crosby.... they upgraded and he went down to WBS and then played on the 4th line in the playoffs

Jaromir Jagr has 3 times as many goals as Tyler Kennedy and it's not like TK brings anything else to the table...

And no, I'm probably never going to drop this.

Jagr will NEVER don the Pens sweater in a game again. Lemieux was expecting him back, which is why Shero offered him a contract. Jagr burned that bridge when he chose the moneygrab and philly.

The only way I trade a defensive prospect, if we get a player that we have control over for years. No to rentals! Unless Its for a draft pick and do not trade your no. 1 for Iganla unless he is signed.

The odds are stacked aganst all these Offensive blue liners prospects "making" it in the NHL. The chances of these guys becoming a Chris Letang are not that high. But teams are willing to trade for these guys cause if they do blossom its a win situation. You just hope Shero trades the right guy. ALso we got a really good shot at a cup this season, you got to throw caution in the wind and go for the cup.

It continues to puzzle me that people think the Penguins ever considered bringing Jagr back.
