They really can't without giving someone up with significant salary... they are up against the cap ($4,219,879 left in AAV space)... Frodo Briere with a NMC sitting at 6.5 Million is quite a burden. Wait til they have to re-sign Cloud Jiroo next season...

They'll have to move Simmonds... Voracek... Coburn... or the Schenns

Normally they make moves - even if they don't make sense

If they could and maybe they're still working on it, they'd be all over Luongo or Kiprosoff... but the only players that they can move to make cap space and make it happen are guys that they don't want to move... They can't trade Pronger... can't move Timmonen, Coburn, Schenn, or Grossman (all NMC and they're already weak on D)... they can't move Bryz NMC... can't move or would want o move Bozo Fartsmell.. can't move Frodo... both NMC...

So do they dare trade the world's greatest player? LOL
Couterier? Frees up a few 100k...

that team is screwed...

anger. fear. agression. the dark side of the trade deadline are they.

Clowe hasn't scored yet this season. Good thing he plays the pens the next 2 games.

I got $100 says he has at least one by the end of Friday night.

I am suprised Florida hasn't had their fire sale yet. Some good talent down there if your willing to let go of quality prospects.

Or only seconds after Steigerwald says Clowe has yet to score a goal this year.

Pens are probably done, but I could see them trying to acquire Boyd Gordon, or someone like that.

Not going to be happy if they pass on Gordon. They need a faceoff/pker badly. Vitale getting scratched is puzzling.

Pass on him? He's not on waivers. Just because a player isn't acquired, doesn't mean it's Shero's fault.

If we don't acquire him, it will be Shero's fault, the very first time one of our 4th liners loses a faceoff. 8-)

I'd kind of like a potential playoff opponent to pick up Goose. Guy can move the puck, but can't play a lick of D, especially when hemmed in by a forecheck. Our top lines would eat him alive.

That's another LWer that we really don't need though, right? Kunitz, Neal, Morrow, Cooke going down the left side, plus Glass. LaRose is just left-handed Kennedy, I think we'll be alright without him, personally. If we go with anyone today, I'd want a utility guy that can take faceoffs and has some size and what not. Just the foil for Vitale basically.

EDIT: Scratch that. Larose is right-handed too. He's Kennedy.

How much of a change would he be from TK? Both are smaller (but willing to hit), speedy guys with some skill, but not really enough to make an impact in the top-6.

What I'm hearing he can be acquired for a mid round pick, I think he can be had or someone like him.

Ruslan Fedotenko being inquired about as a rental interest, AIUI...(not speaking in Penguins terms, just in general).

There's just a lot more to it than just going "I'll give you a 4th for him"...some deals can be like that, sure, but there's more teams than the Penguins out there, maybe the Coyotes want to extend him, maybe they're holding out for something better...maybe they're waiting to hear back from a "friend" team about the same player (like the Coyotes and Rangers have a close working relationship, for instance.).

I'm not in the Coyotes front office. But generally, GMs don't just call and start making offers. It's a poker game sometimes. "Hey, is Boyd available?" "Well, we like how he and Chipchura have played this year, so maybe if the price was right..." / "ok, well, we don't have a lot to give up...so if it made sense, we'd consider it..." / "alright, well, we've gotten a lot of offers (even if you haven't), so if you can beat them, he could be yours..." / "alright, well, we're gonna shop around and see what else is out there...we'll get back to you..."

Things like that go on...and that's not even talking about the logistics of it, the player himself, other restrictions, etc. Sure, when you get closer to 3 pm, you start to get into specifics...but there's a lot of feeling out, especially for sellers today. A lot more buyers than sellers, a lot more offers to field...

Not getting a player isn't "passing on him", it's a process.
