They do. Its the buyout. No player is going to give up guaranteed money for free.
Well, the buyout isn't mutually agreed upon, and from my understanding it is only for this summer (2) and next (1). I'm talking a permanent solution going forward. I understand the player doesn't want to give up guaranteed money, but in most cases, there's always another team willing to pay them. In Luongo's case, he might give up his 12 (?) year deal, but get another 4 or 5 year deal from the next team. I mean, when you've already made millions, will lose a few mils, then gain some more mils back -- what the heck's the difference?
