Informed speculation: Erat for Forsberg, with some other things involved. Erat has a no-trade clause but wants out.
Why does Erat want out? He's been playing for Nashville for like 10 years...
Don't they play a defensive style? Maybe being in Washington would set him free. Plus, it's Nashville.
1. What's wrong with Nashville?
2. Why sign a 7-year contract if you didn't like it there?
3. He's not much of an offensive player, so I doubt his points would sky rocket if he went to Washington.
I just don't really understand the rumor of why he would want out of the organization he's continually played for.
edit: Guess it's official now.
Nashville is a great town and they're just now getting a string of sell-out crowds going. They keep losing key pieces of the puzzle and really aren't going to have the dollars to build a consistently competitive franchise. When he signed the deal (2008) IIRC I thought the Preds were on the way up. Maybe he did too.
By need, they do play a grinding style and if Erat wants to go up tempo then DC would be a good place to go. I do think he has some upside to his offense and has been consistently at a 20-goal-a-year pace here in Nashville. It will be interesting to see what he can do with his skills there.
Personally, I like him a lot. He seems like a good guy, a hard worker, and seems at home at both ends of the ice. Hate to see him go from here especially when he lands there.
