This was posted recently somewhere, but here it is again... The hockey news re-evaluated the 2012 draft and slotted F. Forsberg now at #8

http://www.thehockeynews.com/articles/5 ... draft.html

fyi, Pens Pouliot and Matta are now at #15 and #14. While Pouliot is still lower then the Pens selected, his pre-draft projection by most was a late first rounder, so he has moved up in the eyes of these guys.

That's also a comlpetely worthless, pointless list in my eyes. It was like, 7 months after the draft

Yea, there are still just as many questions with most of these players as before.

Is it as bad as LGP when the Pens didn't draft him? or worse?

I don't disagree, just throwing it out there. Normally, I give credit to the team who is trading a prospect. Prior to draft, everyones availability to info about a player is fairly equal. However, after a draft, then the organization begins to interact and see the characteristics of a player first hand. If they are giving up on him, perhaps they have reason. Either that or McPhee is an idiot. I'm still leaning to the latter, perhaps because it makes me feel better :)

I am seeing quite a few experts saying the Caps won this trade. Erat is underrated and they have him for 2 more years

I think it's a pretty good trade. They're moving an unknown in Forsberg for two plus years of a known performer in Erat. Maybe they regret moving Forsberg but then again maybe he busts and they moved him at his peak value to add a good player for a while. Not really unlike some of the trades the Pens have made.

Erat is a good player. I've always wanted him as a Pen. The Caps are moving in the right direction with players like Riberio (if they get him re-signed, which they will) and Erat. Good trade for them.

If that's how Clowe would play every game, he'd d have been a good pickup even if he didn't score any.

I think I would still take Morrow over Clowe but Morrow needs to play with better linemates almost like we aren't giving him a chance.

If Morrow is another Tangradi, Shero is an idiot for trading for him.

I was listening to DC sports radio waiting for the trade announcement last night. 2 things:

1) With how long it was taking to get the announcement fans were texting in jokes. "OV traded for RG3" etc. One of them said "Crosby to the Caps!!!!" to which the idiotic radio host said "I don't want him. He's worthless and is injured all the time. This jaw injury is probably the end of his career anyway." ....wha?

2) After the announcement the show was in stunned silence. Lavar Arrington (co-host) broke the silence with, "You called in TV for Martin Erat?" I burst out laughing...

At the moment, I'm not concerned about Morrow at all. He's a pure playoff pickup. I'd prefer it if he doesn't get too battered in the regular season. The best place for him, by far, is with Malkin and Neal. I don't like the look of Iginla-Geno-Neal. They get chances and have produced, but I don't see an acceptance of roles. Too much scoring alpha, not enough deference. Morrow knows his place on that line. Geno and Neal have chemistry that shouldn't be **** with.

I think Iginla needs to be a clear option A or B when he's on the ice. It's still ingrained in his style and personality.

It's impossible not to like Shero's deals, but I'm a bit concerned about top-4 defensive D depth. I'm not down on Orpik like a lot of people are, but I think the Pens are counting on too much from him in a deep playoff run. I would like to have seen some insurance for Orpik.

top-4 defensive depth? is that a thing? We were missing arguably 3 of our top 4 guys. That would murder any team in the league. We are fine replacing our bottom pair, and our bottom pair can play 2nd pair in a pinch. that's all you can reasonably expect with half of our top 6 out.

Matt Niskanen has been beyond garbage for a few games now, so that doesn't help. Usually he's not this bad, even in an elevated role on the short term.

I said top-4 defensive d depth. Pens could use someone who can step up and replace Orpik if need be. The transition D depth is exceptional, but the mobile, physical D depth is lacking IMO.

So you're telling me when you take a really good 4th or 5th Dman and make him a #2 Dman (#1 puck moving Dman) that his play is noticeably worse?

I'm shocked...

You can't afford to have 6 guys capable of logging top minutes. You also can't have contingencies for replacing elite level talent. That's not really what "depth" is.
