The Canucks need cap space. David Booth has been underwhelming in his time in Vancouver. He's got 2 more seasons at $4.25m. We could send them Glass + a pick. We don't need him to put up big numbers, but I've always loved his game; he plays the way we need a complementary forward to play...even though he's not been quite the same since his concussion.

If you want Kunitz v2.0 go after Nick Foligno or Curtis Glencross.

How long is Kessler out for?
I would think that VAN hopes to get Booth moving on the score sheet for them.

I know Booth isn't a prize pig now, but Tanner Glass and a pick (unless it's a 1st) isn't going to cut it. With Kesler out with a broken foot or whatever and Malhotra out for the season (career, probably), they're very thin up the middle. They could probably use a defensemen (while moving out Ballard) and a quality two-way center.

If anyone feels like handicapping their alleged favorite team, the Canucks could use Letang. We'd absolutely have to take Keith Ballard back in the deal and then whatever you feel you want...Sedin's, Kesler, Kassian, Hamhuis, all untouchable I think...

Pens have a lot of options in how they address their roster

Forwards
1. 1st line RW - trade Kennedy, Bennett 2nd line LW, Dupuis 3rd line RW
2. 2nd line LW - trade Kennedy, Bennett 3rd line RW
3. 3rd line RW - trade Kennedy, Bennett 2nd line LW

Defense pairings could be all over the place
1. Orpik - Martin / Despres - Letang / Eaton - Niskanen
2. Orpik - Martin / Despres - Letang / Eaton - Engelland
3. Orpik - Martin / Despres - Letang / Eaton - Bortuzzo
4. Orpik - Martin / Despres - Letang / Eaton - RD

I'd like to see a few games with the first defense combinations because I think that has potential to be pretty good come playoff time. I know everyone wants size and grit on the blue line but there's really not much of it out there. Are the Penguins going to acquire a defenseman of greater value than what they already have with Despres, Eaton, and Niskanen?

Would the Flames take a package of Kennedy, D prospect (excluding Morrow), and 1st round pick for Jarome Iginla?

Are Pens better off trying to deal Kennedy plus mid round pick to Blue Jackets for Vinny Prospal?

Iginla Deal
1st: Kunitz - Crosby - Iginla - Despres - Letang
2nd: Bennett - Malkin - Neal - Orpik - Martin
3rd: Cooke - Sutter - Dupuis - Eaton - Niskanen
4th: Glass - Vitale - Adams

Prospal Deal
1st: Kunitz - Crosby - Dupuis - Despres - Letang
2nd: Prospal - Malkin - Neal - Orpik - Martin
3rd: Cooke - Sutter - Bennett - Eaton - Niskanen
4th: Glass - Vitale - Adams

That isn't something I'd do, but the approaching reality is that either Letang or Malkin has to go in the long run. I'd say with the organization's depth at D, Letang is the likely man out. Geno is going to cost more than Letang though.....

And then MAF+ for Iggy and Giordano.

Nice Post Bowser.

The problem is, Bylsma has Engelland and Eaton now both above Despres on the depth chart. Once Martin is back, Despres sits.

12-4 with Despres
2-4 Without Despres

Despres Sits. - Head Coach Dan Bylsma, career 4th line grinder.

I don't get it, I really don't.

I'm not sure that's the case anymore. I think Despres has played well enough to maintain a permanent/semi-permanent roster spot. Once Martin returns, I think Eaton returns to the press box, but would prefer to see Engellend sent there.

Phil Kessel is apparently on the block. Cheaper than Parise would have been, similar production, fast, wicked shot. Hmmmmmmmmmmm

I don't want to trade the single best forward prospect we have, nor do I want to trade a fast-developing top-4 defenseman who will have a likable cap hit for the next 3-4 years. Just me though.

His contract is up and will be getting a big raise, we couldn't afford him once Geno Sutter and Tanger get their new contract. Wouldn't mind having him we just need a cheaper option. I don't want Iginla, i would prefer someone younger who already has a few years on a contract.

I see Despres as a top TWO D in the future, very possibly the #1 D-man on the team in a relatively short time, not just a "top four" that everyone keeps citing (which is accurate but I think too limiting in what I think they have in this kid) so I would hate hate hate to see him traded for less than a premium return.

Kessel and anyone else do not get along very well. He's not a very like-able guy, especially in his youth...him and JMFJ didn't care much for each other either...

I'm pretty sure that the Pens only need a 3rd or 4th liner and a Grittier defensemen to clear out the crease. I think with Bennet playing the second line, your top six is set. They need harder guys to play against in the bottom six.

Kennedy, 1st rounder, and Phil Samulsson for Steve Ott and Robin Regehr??? Sounds good to me

Eh, I'm sure Shero is going to address this and find guys that work. The named players haven't always been the success of what Shero does. The 100% awesome thing about Shero's team is that they don't need to acquire a "star." He just needs guys that will 100% play their roles in the bottom.

If we are going after a UFA forward, at the top of my list is Mike Ribeiro. He is a center by trade but can play on the wing as well. This would give us the ability to trade Kennedy and move Dupuis to the 3rd line.

I'd love a top line of Kunitz Crosby Ribeiro.

Not sure how Ribeiro helps, and he's been one of the few good Capitals this year...

For that Buffalo deal, they wouldn't take that...well, with Buffalo's management, anything is possible, but that's a stretch...they like Ott, Ott seemed to be their #1 target in the offseason for them to get tougher and harder to play against, he's been decent for them and he can play anywhere in the lineup...

Regehr, on the other hand, well, he's looked like the rest of their defense...lost and confused and a step behind everything...he could be had rather easily relative to the name...
