derrick pouliot?

Postby sjnhiils on Wed Mar 06, 2013 12:28 pm

With all the talk of the pens needing a power play quarterback, I know he is only 18 and undersized, but if Portland gets knocked out early in the playoffs would you consider bringing him up? It wouldnt cost us any prospects like a Jack Johnson would. Not sure if it would work but i think it is another option in case a trade cant be made

They were fine with Martin.

Not a sound decision. The jump from junior to the NHL would be absolutely insane.

Plus, of all things to fix on this team, why would one first think of the PP? Do we need to be clicking at 40% or something?

Not only would he not be able to make that jump, but it isn't smart to waste a roster space for a player who will solely play on the PP.

Plus, he's either still hurt, or just coming back from an injury. In GMRS I trust to find something..... Plus, the new look PPlay is clickety-clicking for the most part.

Bortuzzo, Despres and Niskaken are all better options than Poulliot. Joe Morrow is also better as is Reese.

Once Martin comes back the only thing set on the team is in fact the power play.

I think you hit the nail on the head. He's not ready.

Nope.

Best PP QB in the organization is Joe Morrow, and he's much closer to the NHL than Pouliot is anyways, and him we don't even need to rush, as Paul Martin has looked fine this season in that regard.

And this is neither here nor there, but Portland are as much of a favorite as anybody to go all the way. Sick team right now.

I'd bring up D'Agostino before I'd bring up Pouliot. There is absolutely no way Pouliot should see time in the NHL for the next two years.

Its funny how other teams draft and have younger guys contributing right away. Jordan Staal was the only penguin to do that for how long now? Crosby and Malkin arent getting any younger, why do we continue to spend high picks on defensemen 2-3 years away at the least then? Pouliot is considered the most talented power play quarterback in the organization, not Morrow. Was only throwing it out there as a suggestion, but once again people like to show how much smarter they think they are

People who contribute direct from juniors are few and far between, and they are usually top 5-10 picks. They also go to organizations that suck by definition, or they wouldnt be picking that high, so its easier to crack the lineup. Our picks haven't been "high" in any event, other than Pouliot, and he just turned 19.

I predict that DP will be a pretty high-level whipping boy, given the objections to him being selected.

Paul Martin is not a long term solution for the power play. He hasn't performed badly but IMO he does not have the offensive skill to really be effective. Plus his shot is not very good.

I would not be surprised if we ended up with Gonchar again either this season or next. If not, Joe Morrow will be the man. His shots will actually have a chance of going in.

This team doesnt need a powerplay quarterback. It has Malkin and Crosby, who just require a couple defensemen capable of playing the points. (ie 71 & 87 QB da PP.)

A power play QB is way at the bottom of the list of needs. Are we forgetting how well Martin has performed in that role?

Pouliot is nowhere near ready. It wouldn't surprise me if he is the one defensive prospect Shero is willing to trade.

never said it was their top priority. Only mentioned it because of the Jack Johnson trade rumors. I've seen a lot of posts on here wanting us to acquire Keith Yandle. From your perspective and a few others, i guess he is no longer needed because we have Paul Martin
