Me too, I think of him as the scoring winger.

Seriously so do I.

He plays the point on the PP and his style of game is usually more of a winger's shtick. It's kinda backards, St Louis setting up and him scoring.

You can not like Weekes' voting there, but he's one of the best analysts around.

Another fine example of how the only real role of a center is to take a faceoff. After the puck drops forward positions are really meaningless.

Maybe I don't watch enough Tampa Bay, but if it weren't for his goal scoring, would Stamkos be rated that high? Center, to me, is the unique position in hockey in which a player should be judged on all aspects of the game itself, especially as it is played today.

For whatever reason, the Pens do as good a job on Stamkos as any team. To me, he looks more dominant in games I see against other teams and certainly deserves his spot in the top 5-7.

Bourne did a good piece the other day on categorizing stars (all forwards) by their style of play: http://blogs.thescore.com/nhl/2013/03/0 ... -by-style/

The top guys all fit more than one category. Sid is the best because he has sick hands, is the hardest worker, and also knows how to lurk and get open (like he did on his goal against Tampa and when he came off the bench to score against Montreal).

I guess the Pens do a good job against stopping him from scoring goals. gpg career = .564, gpg career v pens = .333. Points pg career 1.043, points pg career v pens 1. This season he has 3+2 in 2 games.
