No one here wants to see the Pens play poor D. As HH has clearly demonstrated, as all the facts point to, they *are* playing poor D and have been doing so for quite some time. The question is where the root of the issue lies. But the bottom-line is that it is ultimately DB's responsibility as the head coach.
Going into this season, the Pens had a lot to prove. Immediately after the embarrassment last spring, there was a lot of reasonable speculation, among fans and media, of major moves including roster and coaching changes. DB stated going into this season that improved defense was a priority. I somewhat recall one quote from him which was along the lines of a shutout being the goal each game. Based on how the team he coaches is responding on the ice, they have nearly completely failed thus far.
As recent history is repeating itself, it's naive to think these issues will be resolved in the playoffs without a tangible improvement during the regular season. I think that if anyone is believing what they want to around here, it is those understating the issues.
