I often times get chills (literally) listening to Mike Lange's radio replays. Kind of weird but the guy is just awesome.

Lange is awesome. I am sure someone will complain about him though.

Obviously, his radio calls are terrible. They can't win with the guy calling the play like that.

He's good on the radio, but I never listen to the radio. I've never gotten chills from listening to something though.

He is not even the best radio announcer in this town. I can't believe they let someone like Steve Mears go and keep this guy.

No offense to the OP. I love Mike Lange. He is in the HOF for a reason.

Mike Lange is an original and would love to see him back on TV anyday.

I don't know... I didn't grow up in Pittsburgh, so I don't have nostalgia for him announcing games on TV. To me at least, he sounds like an unspectacular even disinterested at times announcer who has WACKY GOAL CATCHPHRASES!
Unpopular opinion, I know

And then what's up with Root sports saying "Brent Sutter" is the Player of the Game right after the game was over and Steigy says "Brent" too like he's Anchorman reading whatever is on the monitor?

I don't know if this is trolling for agreement from haters or not, but I grew up in Pittsburgh and feel a similar way. I don't think he's bad, and liked him a little over a decade ago, but that period on tv where he was seemingly incoherently drunk still sticks with me. I can take him or leave him at this point. If he didn't go with a "saying" evrey goal, it would be more interesting.

I don't think Steve Mears is his real name.

He played in our adult hockey league under the same name(which doesn't say much) but it would not surprise me if he did though.

He has
ALWAYS been awesome. He has the kind of delivery that can fire up an audience. I can't get the radio broadcasts out here in Central PA and am forced to listen to the TV play-by-play (Steiggie).
You know that Lange is in the Hockey Hall of Fame, don't you? It's not just us fans that think he's awesome.

Back before every game was on TV, I would come home from school, put on KDKA (they were on there back then) and fall asleep and Lange's voice would wake me up. He is awesome.

Actually, the terminology appears to be imprecise. Based on what I've seen, winning the Foster Hewitt entitles the recipient to be described as "Hall of Fame" and "inducted" therein. Lange has an "induction page" on the HHOF site:
http://www.hhof.com/htmlInduct/ind01media.shtml. He's also described as a "Hall-of-Fame announcer." Here, in this clip on the Pens' site, Lange "talks about being inducted into the HHOF":
http://video.penguins.nhl.com/videocent ... ?id=175119.
I love the guy. Perhaps it's because he's been with me for the 3 decades I've been a fan. He helped me to learn and to love the game. The catchphrases are old-school and remind me of Bob Prince. I refuse to listen to Paul Steigerwald as the main PxP guy, and have been successful for years in avoiding it.

you want unpopular. i'll give you unpopular. "lord stanley, scratch their names on your fabled cup" was a supremely lame line. like, really lame.
even the calls from last night...eh. i didn't know he goes right to the schtick after like every goal.

Odd thread title. I was a bit worried I'd open it up to find an unflattering picture of a random part of the human body.
