Get Sutter a Winger

For years its been the cry to get Sid a winger. Well he seems to do just fine with Dupuis and Kunitz and likewise Geno has done well with Neal. So isn't it time to get Sutter somebody better to play with rather than Kennedy and Cooke?

If Ryan Clowe is in fact available (which still strikes me as odd -- a team that is heading to the playoffs selling a player that seems likely to be a playoff beast), then he would be the perfect replacement for TK on that line. He's huge, he's mean, he's capable offensively, etc. The line wouldn't lose anything defensively, while adding a whole lot of nasty and a bonus scoring punch (albeit modest).

It's been reported a couple places that Clowe is available. He's having a down year but yeah he's a power forward for sure that has shown in the past to be able to put up good numbers. He's still mean, physical, for the most part responsible on the ice.

Clowe can play anywhere in the line up. He's had a couple down years so a change of scenery might be just what he needs. Forward depth is never a bad thing especially if said forward is 6'2" 220lbs and plays like it.

Vitale is at 3 seconds/game on the PK.
That's one coaching decision that I just don't get....especially in light of how bad they have been at times this year.

They aren't as aggressive as they used to be on the PK it seems...so, one way to curtail aggressiveness is to put slow players out...

Eric Nystrom would solve a lot of problems with scoring depth and the PK. Shift Cooke to RW and send Kennedy to Dallas.

nystrom as scoring depth? there's no evidence of that being a real thing.

I've always said that if your PK sucks, then at least it should be aggressive and try to score shorthanded. That way it can get back a few of the goals it allows.

It's exactly what I've been saying! The PK could improve just by making better personnel decisions. Glass and Adams should not be taking draws. Heck I'm unsure if Glass should even see the PK. Vitale has a great face off % and could be very useful there, yet the guy can barely crack the lineup most nights.

I don't understand how guys don't get demoted from the PK when its struggled as it has. We just keep trotting the same guys out there night after night. It's not working, why not let Vitale take draws like Crosby does at least? It's a baby step, but it's an attempt to get better.

I'd argue the only weak point of the PK is Glass. It's a hard argument to make with how poor it has been, however.

Should be Sutter/Cooke and Adams(or someone)/Dupuis as the forwards imo.

There is a reason Vitale doesn't get PK time. I don't know what it is, but I'm confident in saying the it's not because the coaching staff didn't think about it.


I'm still curious to know if the PK looked better last night, in large, due to being more aggressive or Orpik in the box for 3 of the PKs. I did like Bylsma letting Despres get some PK time.

Clowe has as many goals this year as Tanner Glass. Don't get your hopes too high...

I got to agree with Clowe, not only would be a good fit on the 3rd line but come playoff time he could fit in that Talbot roll when he played with Geno in '09. All around a good fit up and down the line up.

If we couldn't get Clowe a MacAuthur filling in that kunitz roll with Neal and Malkin when that line was the best could help.

Don't forget Clowe got 0 goals this year, but has had a 16, 3(only played 15 games) 22, 19, 24, 17 goal seasons. He is 6'2 225lbs has had over 100 pims in 2 seasons. Dude is a all around player, a perfect fit for Geno or 3rd line. He is 30 and a UFA

Don't know what he would cost, but imagine a high pick or roster player.
