I think by the end of his career he'll be #2 above Jagr, but he isn't there yet IMO.

The fact that was mentioned on the telecast the other night is amazing. He is the 1st overall pick who plays with 2 undrafted wingers who are now posting amazing numbers in a shortened season. These are both effective players in their own right, and deserve to be where they are, but that is just very interesting to ponder.

People talk about the Kip Millers and Errol Thompsons and Warren Youngs - but he has to be considered 2nd overall because these guys were always less than they are today without him. Jagr to me was a great player, but not in every year since he hit the league. He grew to that point and then failed in Washington. This is not a knock on Malkin, but he is better when Sid is out, almost as if he is engulfed by Sid's talent.

No one else broaches that long-standing peak from 5 on down...no one has gotten into the "less discuss it" territory for #2 yet. If anyone gets near #1, we will have celebrated many Stanley Cups, I would think, in the mean time...
