Had to double check Bucci on this...I always thought Morrow was a rookie on that Cup team...he was not. He was a rookie on the team that lost the next year to New Jersey...would have lost a small bet on that one...

You and I are on the same page then. I too would have bet he had a cup

That's a pretty crappy strategy.

shmenguin, you seem to crap all over every rumor or eventual deal. What would you rather the Pens do? Just do nothing and hope we win? They have all that defense for the reason of having assets to work with -- whether that be developing and playing them, or trading them.

I've crapped on rumors that have been baseless junk, like iginla or bobby ryan.

Like I said above, what we effectively just did was turn a first round draft pick into a 3rd line rental. There's a lot of romance surrounding morrow and his guts, but on the surface, this deal smells.

But of course, shero knows a ton more about both morrows than I, so I'll give it a chance I guess.

I don't think draft position matters at all in this. Morrow is clearly a good prospect, but they have seen Dumoulin play in WBS all year. They just elevated Bortuzzo and Despres this season and they have acquitted themselves well. I think this also means that they are pleased with Maata and Pouliot as the next wave. Letang is still young.

I also think that Bennett's play thus far allowed them to move a D prospect for some veteran help up front. He at least fills a glaring need for young F talent to be injected with Neal, Crosby and Malkin as the core and Sutter still progressing as a young veteran.

They can afford to take this risk and if he works out, take a run at re-signing him. I am not expecting a point a game from him. I expect big goals and some tough play in the corners - nothing more.

Don't get me wrong, I'd rather they do the deal than not, but the plan is not to only get declining warrior types for former 1st round picks. You can't really get by doing that consistently. Just would prefer that Morrow was worth more. With Clowe and Iginla both also available, I would have thought that Morrow would have cost a lot less. What do we really know, maybe that is the price it took for Dallas to deal him now instead of waiting until the deadline. Just my thought, though. Still, prefer having Brenden for this year to having Joe for the future.

I'm willing to bet this isn't a 1 for 1 trade. Curious to see the full deal. I was thinking Bortuzzo and a 3rd for Morrow....supply and demand....

I think we have to clear a roster spot. Might not be directly related to the deal (did Malkin come off IR for tonight or no?), but at some point we're gonna need to clear one and I don't think sending down Bennett or Despres is too smart. Though, it might need to be done for a day. Though, it's my understanding that it's too late today. Roster moves, I thought, had to be in by 5 pm Eastern.

So.......that's 23 players + Malkin on IR.
Someone on the Pens should be nervous right now.

And, no, I'm not counting Trevor Smith in the 23.

In the end, the ripple effect in the lineup will be important. My guess is Tanner Glass just got benched, and when the team is healthy, he may be waived to the minors.

Nope. Vitale just got benched. He's the only one between the three 4th liners who has been scratched

Maybe he is in the deal?

Wanted Iginla, but Morrow helps. The Pens were a winger short.

Don't think Malkin is off the IR yet. But he will be soon, which makes me think Glass, Kennedy, or Jeffrey is on the outs.

Meh, maybe. But probably not. Might just be asking Dallas to take Jeffrey or something...it's way too late to waive anyone (that's a noon deadline) and I believe that roster moves are done at 5 pm. Could be the hold up...just baseless speculation...when you read the CBA enough, you're like a doctor that turns into a hypochondriac because you know all the things that could be wrong...

I think Kennedy is ideal for the fourth line. Him, Vitale and Adams is quite nice. Could be better, but I'm on board.

Doing the deal now for any of our targets is better than waiting, because the deadline day frenzy will drive prices up. Shero most-likely had been in touch with Calgary and San Jose, and felt this deal, right now, works for him and this team.

As far as I'm concerned he refused to be part of a bidding war and acted now. The pressure is on in Boston, Philly, NY, etc. They will have to pay to play and they will drive each other's payment up doing it.
