I think Iginla has a lot more left than Morrow, who plays way bigger than his body, but a non-roster player going the other way increases NHL depth and adds leadership - for a lot less than it will take to get Iginla.

I trust Shero's judgement on this. Plus, it's mentioned as a "package" that includes Morrow for Morrow - so we don't even know what the deal is.

Morrow would be acquired for the 3rd line, not the 2nd - a place of need for us.

TK stays in the lineup, he's been much better. I'd play him 100/100 times over Glass.

The intangibles of Brenden Morrow are the deal-maker here. The guy is all guts all the way, wears his heart on his sleeve. He's a perfect piece to add to this team right now.

A couple thoughts without much basis.

First, Iginla was way too much. Morrow seems like the key piece to any deal, and if he wasn't enough (with another 1st, for instance), Shero went after Morrow.

Second, Morrow plugs in beautifully on the third line if Malkin comes back soon. Bennet doesn't work there at all, IMO, and Morrow seems a bit slow for Geno/Neal. Sutter has shown he can score when he's with talented players, and Morrow can grind well enough for a third line role. This makes our third line of Sutter/Morrow/Cooke very formidable. TK, Jeffrey, Vitale, Adams, and Glass will rotate in the 4th line. TK will probable be HSed a lot since he can't kill penalties.

Third, win now. Morrow is a lot, but we thought the same about Hossa when we lost Esposito and a 1st. At bottom, Morrow is a low first round pick. If this trade gets us to the SCF, it is well worth it. Holding on to assets so you're consistently among the best in the league is pointless if you don't win Cups.

I'm torn on this one.

I really believe that Joe Morrow could be a special NHL player.

But Brendan Morrow (with no knowledge of how he's played this year) is a warrior, the kind of guy you win with in the playoffs (tournaments, etc).

I can see GMRS doing this, that man has got brass monkeys.

I think Morrow is the Gary Roberts/Bill Guerin figure this team needs. Pretty steep price, but honestly I'm glad Shero is being aggressive. I think back to last year, Philly paid a couple draft picks to get a guy like Grossman, the Pens stood pat. I'm not going to forget Ben Lovejoy being embarrassed in the third period of (I think) game 2 and contributing to the disaster that series was. These D prospects are here to be used as trade assets. There's not enough room for all of them here. Hopefully Shero picked the right one to move.
