As others have said, this trade will be a real measure of the Pens' scouting. Stars fans love the trade.

That's a weird way to give away money while disrespecting the best player ever. What a strange combo.

It's not like they retired 9 or 12 or some common number. No one wears 99 except for total benders in beer leagues anyhow...

Not worried about it, I just want to see what he will bring to the ice. Either way, we are at the top of the league without them. We didn't give anyone up to make this happen.

Glass will wear 15. Morrow 10. Murray 3. Jeffrey 17.

And Gretzky isn't the greatest player ever. Best point collector ever, but not the greatest player.

I can ALMOST understand 42 being retired across baseball for Jackie Robinson, as both the player and the symbolic barrier he broke down.
Gretzky was a dynamic forward, great leader, sure fire hall of famer and all that. But there is no reason teams he never played for cannot use his jersey.

Look, I don't wanna take this case. Especially not in this thread. But if you wanna take your case to NPR, you can even start a thread with a good, solid argument against this and I'll take it on. Not to be a ****, but you won't win, but maybe others will be entertained in the process...

Do not know if this was posted already, but just read it,

"Joe Morrow on his experience in the Penguins’ farm system: “I definitely struggled the first half of the season trying to find my place and find positives in what I was doing. They nitpicked my game so hard in the defensive zone that I had to change a lot of things.”

Is Rob Rossi out there spewing this garbage, for real?

Elsewhere on the Iginla front, Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that, while the Penguins remain interested in the 35-year-old forward, the suggestion is that he "might not fill a top-six role with the Penguins".

No he is right.

We are going to trade a 1st round picks and 2 Prospects for Iginla to play a role on the 4th line 6 minutes a game

If the Pens trade for him, he will be on Crosby's line. Dups will go to the 3rd line. However, this probably won't happen.

This was fascinating:

One last note on the Morrow-for-Morrow deal I found very interesting. It’s clear the Penguins have been trying to completely retool Joe Morrow’s defensive-zone game all season long. It’s very telling to see how Morrow described that process in a quote on the Dallas Stars team website …

“I definitely struggled the first half of the season trying to find my place and find positives in what I was doing. They nitpicked my game so hard in the defensive zone that I had to change a lot of things.

… versus how Hynes described the process after practice today:

“I’d say the details of his game are important. As a young guy, that’s what he’s got to learn. The details make the difference. Stick in the air versus a stick on puck is the difference between a turnover and not.”

http://blogs.citizensvoice.com/penguins ... llout-325/

Seems to suggest he's a bit uncoachable. Guess it helps explain why Shero was willing to move him out of the options in the stable.

The best time to trade a prospect is right before the other guy figures out he's a bust. If Morrow had struggled at WBS again next year, because he wasn't listening/progressing, his value would have nose-dived.
