Game 33 vs. Flyers - Thoughts from the Morning After

Postby Penspal on Mon Mar 25, 2013 8:30 am

Pens win 2-1 in OT

- Another come from behind win extending the winning streak to 12
- Great team defense limited the Flyers to a goal, MAF was solid
- Fantastic to see the Pens maintain composure vs Philly, as there were sparks but no fire
- TK has broken out of his longest career slump
- Jeffrey had a great game and where did that Malkin-esque move come from?
- It was a tough game - Dupuis, Kunitiz, Glass all made trips to the locker room for further eval. Hope all are fine.
- Morrow, Malkin & Letang will soon be added to a winning lineup, that's a good thing right? :fist:
- Really looking forward to the next game, bring on the HABS!!!!

-Most relaxing Philly game in a long time. Think it was a combo of Flyers having to be in win now mode and no Geno
-Solid D (there were gaffes but no team plays a perfect game)
-Flower strong again. Was good to see after not playing since Tuesday.
-Only one penalty and a nice bounce to help out Philly get the goal
-Just need to keep playing this sound when Geno/Letang get back and Morrow gets to town

Despres had a turnover in the third period and wa promptly benched until OT. When he returned to the ice in OT he was on the ice for the GWG. I expect to see him benched next game for his mistake.

I love it when Sid rips the heart out of those guys.

I didn’t go last night, the flyers make me toxic; fingers-crossed I won't have to until next year.
Great to see the pens play them color-blind. Composure and detachment for the kill.
Brooks and Martin , another solid-strong effort.
Sid :D
Ilya and Flower both with strong games, as their pedigrees say they can play.
Suck on a lemon brayden schenn.

- Sure will be nice to have a 2nd line again. If you told me we would maintain a winning streak without Letang, Malkin and let's be honest Neal. I would have laughed in your face.
- Where are all the fire DB threads/posts?? Trolls are pathetic.
- I'm very happy for Kennedy. I think that was the goal that will get him going, unfortunately I think it is too late.
- Flower was solid, Flyers goal was flukey.
- Hit Dupuis was just the kind of $h** we need out of this game. Will it get reviewed? Doubt it. Duper wasn't bleeding from his ears enough.

Pierre commentary alert. I've seen less (Kunitz earlier this season) called than this. I know it's late in the game, but if they were serious about taking dangerous hits out of the game...come on, make the call.

2 quick observations:
- the Crosby line looks superhuman. They just run and run and run.
- without Malkin, Neal just roams around the ice looking lost. He rarely plays his position and gives the puck over with the slightest challenge. It is a bizarre thing when your rookie looks less confused than what is supposedly one of your best players when the star C goes down.

I think it is a crime that Morrow will get the benefit of Geno returning when BB is already outpacing his scoring pace. (11 pts in 29 games for Morrow, 9 pts in 18 games for BB and BB plays 3 fewer minutes/game).

Pascal Dupuis is the hardest working, toughest, almost 34 year old in the NHL.

Fleury was very sharp. The goal was a bit flukey.

Jeffrey's doing great work until he gets into scoring positions.

Cooke had a lot of energy last night.

Did Despres sleep with Bylsma's significant other or something?

One turnover and you're benched.

He looked shaky with the puck for most of the game to me. Was kinda glad to see him benched after that turnover.

...the hit on Dupuis is text book boarding, they could use as a what not to do. Dupuis numbers to the palyer..Coburn hits Dupuis in the numbers then uses his arms to propel Dupuis into the glass, it didn't cause any injury, but it was a clinic on how to board a player according to the rules. Coburn knew exactly what he was doing, if Dupuis wasn't as close to the boards as he was this might have turned out a lot worse. I think it's what saved him from serious injury.

depres gets a little too confident with the puck in his own end. nothing wrong with reminding him to keep it simple. i was more concerned with his josef melichar impression late in the game where he gave simmonds about 15 feet of space as he waltzed his way into scoring position.

This was an "off" game for the D, especially Martin (by his standard) and Eaton....and it didn't really matter.

Fleury was the Pens' best player in this one.

I second that. If I had to pick someone to go to war with It would be #9.....Never lets up.....Never takes a shift off, since we traded for him.

Depending on the time period, if I had to go to war, i'd probably take Chara with me.

If classic boarding; why difficult to call the penalty?
all year this boarding call is at the whim of the refs and the game situation. It shouldn't be.
The call should be made no matter what is going on in the game.

If the streak would have ended last night, the heat on Jeffrey for passing up the shot on the doorstep would shut down this forum.
