I think we can all agree that Niskanen has been a very pleasant surprise. He went from a guy who was unwanted in Dallas to a very solid #4/#5 guy here, and has stepped up to the plate every time he's been asked to. Also remember that Dupuis was just a throw in to the Hossa trade too. You know... the guy who is tied with Stamkos for the most even strength goals in the NHL!

I understand some people are concerned about Murray's lack of speed against quicker teams like Montreal or Toronto. My stance on that is that Murray's positional play should be good enough to handle it, but if it isn't then there's no need to play him. They're going to be carrying 9 defensemen; if Murray is a liability against quick teams, scratch him - plain and simple. At the end of the day, I think his presence in the playoffs could be a huge factor.

Ok, but Dupuis wasn't run out of ATL. The fan there was pissed when he was moved.

I think Murray is going to pair with Letang. He will have the blanket of Letang's amazing skating to help offset his footspeed, and Letang will have the advantage of Murray's absolutely terrifying demeanor to give him some protection. Teams bang on Letang way too much, and this would seem to be a perfect pairing on paper.

Eaton and Niskanen have been very good as have Martin and Orpik. I don't see why we would break up two or three pairings and shuffle the deck on a 12 game winning streak.

Engelland gets bumped out. Niskanen has earned his spot on the roster and solidified himself as the #4/#5 guy.

Eaton-Niskanen sounds like a more than adequate 3rd pairing.

This looks pretty sweet to me, though personally I'm not overly concerned about Despres. I'd give him a few games early/dress 7 D, if he crumbles then ol' reliable Eatons there. A taster of playoff hockey will help Seeeeemon's development, he needs to know what to expect next year!

Shero said that the Sharks on the road, so Murray had to fly back to San Jose, pack some stuff up and fly back east. He should be in town later tonight. I sense in time for an in-studio drop in with Steiggy and Bob. :face:

He should be able to practice Wednesday, said GMRS.

I love the fact there are so many options, with Martin - Orpik set, any combination of Letang, Murray, Nisky and Eaton is solid with no clear cut weak link (sorry Engo). Despres, Engelland and Bortuzzo are pretty solid depth, and if all are retained into the playoffs Shero can restructure the D in the offseason as required.
