Coburn hit on Dupuis

Postby Richard Zemlak on Tue Mar 26, 2013 1:30 pm

Does anyone know if the NHL reviewed this hit? I haven't heard a word about it since the game and I think it deserves at the very least a fine. Is it even being reviewed?

The NHL reviews every hit.

Ray Shero said during his Murray presser that the he thinks the league fines a team $25000 if they send a tape into the Office of Player Safety in 48 hours after a hit, so he hasn't done anything with the hit.

Dupuis played after the hit (set the screen for GWG), and practiced yesterday and will be in the lineup tonight.

My guess is that the league won't do anything about the hit.

This is such a joke of a rule. I get the premise - but just "review every hit"

IMO, the hit should have been a 2 minute boarding call, nothing more. They didn't call the 2 minutes in the game, so there is really nothing for Player Safety to do here. Move along.

Yeah, should have been a penalty. No suspension though.

are we basing the result of the play for no suspension? Because it seemed like a clinic on how to board. I think Dupuis proximity to the boards prevented any injury, if he's a little farther from the boards he gets face planted and maybe worse

i don't think so. it certainly was textbook boarding, but that's not the league's priority for discipline. if it was, then we'd see a lot more majors regularly being handed out on boarding plays.

Not every boarding call is a suspend-able offense.

Also, keep in mind that a player's action that results in a suspension on one day doesn't necessarily result in a suspension on another day.

It works just like the way boarding penalties are called during a game.

that's not the goal though. league discipline should be consistent no matter what day it is while in-game officiating will always vary.

Garage League. What more can be said. Should have had a telephone call to say "Yeah, we saw it and it didn't go unnoticed."

it is perception.

Had Dupuis been injured..not returned to the game...or both..

then I believe the league would have suspended. The fact that Dupuis came back out skating like his normal 100 mph self, then the hit wasn't that bad. In the eyes of the league anyways.

Sid does that and Milkberry has a multilple strokes talking for weeks about special treatment. Jones files charges with the PA atty general and Lav calls 47 consecutive time outs in protest. Fatty Boudreau goes on a hunger strike that lasts only 5 min until he passes out and is given a bacon IV.

As much as I love the action on ice, no sport is worse at off field management & promotion.

I tweeted Rick Tocchet after the hit saying that looked like something he'd get suspended for. He agreed with me. I'm actually shocked it wasn't looked at or even talked about more in the media. To me that was worse than the hit on the Phoenix goalie. He didn't let up at all. I was very surprised Dupuis was out there in overtime. I'd like to see some reasoning behind why they didn't suspend him for that. I'm not sure how much worse a board can be than that.
