Despres sent down

I can only assume this to free up a roster slot without risking waivers?

Grrrrrrrrrrr

He will be back April 3rd I guess when rosters expand. Seems like a move of numbers rather than play on the ice.

#Pens have reassigned D Simon Despres to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Assuming this isn’t just paper move, it’s disappointing. Kid’s ceiling high.

I'd rather he play in the AHL than sit in the press box.

Shero was quoted either today or yesterday, before this move, as saying this will be our defense. Someone posted the link in one of the threads.

The facepalm was for DK's butthurt reaction.

Isn't Leatng being healthy and ready to go the bigger news?

Shero already said the nine D they had would be their NHL D in a week. It's obviously a paper move so Dejan's reaction is his typical nonsense trying to stir the pot or whatever he does.

Despres wasn't going to play anyway with Letang back and Murray here. He's not in the top six right now. He will be next year and beyond.

I do not agree with this move. Despres is like Letang Jr, and the fact Engellend is still in the top six is crazy.

Engellend isn't in the top 6 now.

This is purely because he is waiver exempt, only him and Bennett are. And when Malkin is off the IR expect Bennett to also go down until April 3.

This is a business move, not an indictment good or bad on Despres.

Everyone calm down. Just need to make a spot for Letang to return and Depres will be back in a week when roster limit is removed.

I think he was genuinely ignorant on this one. After a few minutes of scratching his head:

Bear in mind: All #NHL teams can expand rosters beginning April 3. Despres only D-man who doesn’t have to clear waivers. Could return soon.

Have to do this. It's the only way Letang is back in the lineup without potentially losing anyone to waivers

If Malkin is ready to go before April 3rd, Bennett is gonna have to be temporarily sent down too so that we don't lose anyone to waivers.

After April 3rd Despres (and possibly Bennett if Malkin is healthy by then) can be recalled... Unfortunately I'm a Despres fan and I have a feeling he's not gonna see much more time regardless if and when he is recalled.

I don't think Engelland will see much playing time once Murray is ready.

8-)

Simon Despres going to WBS knowing his GM is happy with his play. Makes that drive to WBS bearable.

With Malkin's injury, i'd just leave him out till the third. Team is rolling, a couple extra days of cushion after you think he's ok can't hurt. He'll still have plenty of time to integrate into the different lineup.
