Olympic break

Postby Gaucho on Mon Feb 13, 2006 1:20 pm

I didn't know about this:

"NHL regulations prohibit the Penguins from practicing -- or conducting any other team function -- until Feb. 22."

Kinda idiotic, imo.

Not really. I think it's an attempt to make sure teams don't have mini camps while others with lots of Olympians can't do that. And it still gives teams about a week of practices before the games start again.

Sorovy, Malkin or Gonchar?

Postby FuturePens on Mon Feb 13, 2006 2:20 pm

Who do you think will be the most productive player in the Olympics this year from the Pens team?

In my opinion Russia has too many Stars in their lineup.
Maxim Afinogenov 5-10 174 9/4/79
Pavel Datsyuk 5-10 189 7/20/78
Alexander Frolov 6-2 213 6/19/82
Alexander Kharitonov 5-8 176 3/30/76
y-Alexander Korolyuk 5-9 190 1/15/76
Ilya Kovalchuk 6-2 205 4/15/83
Alexei Kovalev 5-11 185 4/2/66
Viktor Kozlov 5-10 178 5/3/72
Evgeni Malkin 6-3 178 7/31/86
Alexander Ovechkin 6-1 200 9/17/85
Maxim Sushinsky 5-7 176 7/1/74
Alexei Yashin 6-5 209 11/5/73

I believe that Malkin won't get the ice time he would want with so many veterans in the lineup. What do you think?

I hope Sorovy has a great Olympics, I would love to see some more offense from him after break.

We all know what Kovalev can do. I think Kozlov might have some good games as well.

Damn, 3rd line will probably be Frolov, Datsyuk and Afinogenov. Now that's scary :!: 1st line- Kovalchuk-Malkin-Kovalev. 2nd line- Ovechkin-Yashin-Korolyuk. Or switch Afino and Koro.

Malkin got major minutes last year at the World Championships. Russia had a lineup stacked with stars, so I'd guess he will get major ice time if his play warrants it.

I thought a couple of guys from his Metal team were on the Olympic team and that Malkin would play on a line with those guys.
