Means he doesn't have to clear waivers, that Shero is a smart one

How long can a conditioning assignment last?

oops, Roster page fail. They added Despres, deleted Bortuzzo, and forgot to mark Letang on IR.

I thought conditioning assignments were specifically for post-injury returning players?

Talk about some creative juggling to get all these bodies in the roster without loosing any of them.

I don't think it would make sense to bring him back April 3, either. They have 7 even with Letang out that are in front of him in the pecking order. Let him keep playing in WBS and bring him up if you need to.

Conditioning assignments can last up to 2 weeks (players must give consent, I believe). There is a protocol for an extension, but it wouldn't be granted as Bortuzzo isn't rehabbing an injury, I wouldn't think. Though, the "conditioning assignment" is not just for players returning from IR. It's understood that a player who has been scratched often can also utilize this feature.

Unless something has changed in the new CBA or I have this all completely wrong. Not only does Bortuzzo still receive NHL salary, but he also continues to count against the 23-man active roster while on the conditioning assignment. I'll try to confirm this first-hand, but it's more than likely that if any of our beat writers are awake right now, they will beat me to it. Too easy of a loophole, IMO. I firmly believe he still counts against the active roster until proven otherwise.

And people complain about the Flyers being shady with their roster. I'm not sure how you get away with this/how everyone doesn't do it. Wouldn't he have to stay on the roster if he's not rehabbing?

Hmm. Pens have now fixed Letang on IR but still are not showing Bortuzzo on the web roster.

Gets him playing time without waivers. Win-win for everyone since Bortuzzo still gets his NHL pay.

I lost count. Why did we call up Despres? Wouldn't Letang on IR open a roster spot for Murray?

If Despres is only moved to WBS because of roster limit it makes sense to get him back to Pittsburgh if a spot opens. Bortuzzo is still on the 23 man roster.

I thought we still needed to make room for Murray.

Ah, I finally figured it out. I counted Geno as on the 23-man roster.
