There is a protocol for an extension, but it wouldn't be granted as Bortuzzo isn't rehabbing an injury, I wouldn't think. Though, the "conditioning assignment" is not just for players returning from IR. It's understood that a player who has been scratched often can also utilize this feature.

Unless something has changed in the new CBA or have this all completely wrong. Not only does Bortuzzo still receive NHL salary, but he also continues to count against the 23-man active roster while on the conditioning assignment. I'll try to confirm this first-hand, but it's more than likely that if any of our beat writers are awake right now, they will beat me to it. Too easy of a loophole, IMO. I firmly believe he still counts against the active roster until proven otherwise.

It says he counts against the 23-man limit right in the link mikey

   I could have swore that there was debate in this very thread about whether or not he counted! There's no way I could have made that up...what the hell?!?

It's okay, I won't take this opportunity to get on you about something because you are never wrong. :thumb:

Just trade Engelland to some dumb team like Flordia for a 6th rounder.

Solution.

Hopefully he was able to work off the nacho weight, because he's about to put some more on.

Murray will be released after the season, wew on't be able to afford him without him taking a discount. So its in our best interest to keep Engelland around.

Engel doesn't do what Murray does... at all.

Murray will be a FA so he doesn't need to be released.

Well, I'm fairly sure Bortuzzo still counts against our 23 player max while on a conditioning assignment.

It wasn't so much creative juggling as it was having guys get injured, that they could move to the IR, in order to stay at or below 23.

Yeah he does still count. Losing Martin and Crosby now makes the juggling a lot less complex.....sadly.

Depres played on the second powerplay. So i guess its either Engelland or Bortuzzo who sits tomorrow.

Don't you think we have to give the guy a chance to play a game? Seems ridiculous to play Depres as the 3rd pairing he has logged 20min all during his development. Now is the time to give Depres a change to play top 2 min.

No, it's not, and it's not going to hurt his "development". He's play 15-16 minutes a game all year and has done just fine.
