You guys think Shero will try to get him resigned if he plays well during the run? And how much would he expect to get paid at this point? I don't think he wants to retire for the next few seasons.

Feaster on NHLN praising Bouwmeester for giving a list of four teams and going to ANY of those four teams. Still crying about "it was up to the player and the player made it clear there was only one team he wanted" regarding Iginla.

I have no problem with what Iginla did. He wanted to play with Sid and it was his choice. Until it's is officially signed, all bets are off.

I felt all along he wanted to come here based on how much he praised Sid during the Olympics. Just sounded like he really, really, wanted to play with Sid then and I guess it carried over.

Stuff like that makes me think that Iginla won't be returning to Calgary no matter what happens

Instead of "I ONLY want PGH!" - I imagine it went more like this:

A while ago...I will go to this group of teams
Pens trade for Morrow, Murray...are assumed done
Deal worked with Boston
Pittsburgh still open to gettin Iginla
Iginla says he prefers Pgh

I wonder how much of an impact getting Morrow and Murray had on convincing Iginla to come to the Penguins. He originally gave Feaster a list of 4 teams he'd be willing to go to, then suddenly it was only the Pens. Those trades may have been the turning point. Good work, RS!

Iginla had to sign off on the deal in any case, as long as Pittsbugh made a legit offer, or something in the same ballpark as Boston was offering Iginla figured the deals were the same so he choose the team when it came time to sign off on the deal.

If Shero ony offered a 3rd round pick and Boston offered 2 prospect and a 1st rounder i would think Iginla would of went to Boston just my guess.

But something tells me Iginla wanted Pittsburgh all along. But Iggy held all the cards so i can blame him for controling his destiny.

It'll be closer to, if not over $5,000,000. A three year deal might pull it down to $4,500,000.

Its hard to imagine the Pens getting this deal done without losing some roster players for clearing cap space purposes.

If it were to get done, Dupuis and Kennedy are the ones who get sacrificed, unless of course Duper takes a good bit less to stay here than he could get on the open market, because that number could be up in the $3,500,000 area.

Duper will be back for 2yr ~2.5mil or 3yr ~2mil. He wants to play here and took a discount last time.

Seeing how Duper got that big Penguins logo tattooed on him, I'd say he wants to stay.

Duper I think will stay and will not demand from Pens more than 2.5M per year..
Iggy might re-sign for 4.25M - 4.5M per year if he wants chance to win a cup.

If we re-sign Iggy,Duper,Cooke (1.5M), Adams (0.600K) and Jeffrey (0.700k), we have to trade Kennedy rights,Glass and save some money and have a little cap space around 600-800k!

Let's run with this premise (as well as Kennedy being gone) in 2013-14 for a second...

Kunitz ($3,725,000) | Crosby ($8,700,000) | Iginla ($4,500,000)
Bennett ($900,000) | Malkin ($8,700,000) | Neal ($5,000,000)
Cooke ($2,000,000) | Sutter ($2,066,667) | Dupuis ($2,500,000)
Glass ($1,100,000) | Vitale ($550,000) | Adams (or similar player) ($675,000)
Jeffrey (or similar player ) ($675,000)

Orpik ($3,750,000) | Martin ($5,000,000)
Despres ($840,000) | Letang ($3,500,000)
Niskanen ($2,300,000) | Bortuzzo ($750,000)
Engellend ($566,667)

Fleury ($5,000,000)
Vokoun ($2,000,000)

Total = $64,798,334

Still need to shed $1,000,000 in there...and I'm not sure where that'd come from?

Why are Cooke and Adams going to take significant pay cuts ($300,000 and $75,000 respectively)?

Have to think TK will be gone, saving 2 mil and as much as I hate to say it, the Pens might want to consider buying out Orpik and saving that 3.5 as well. I love Brooks but business is business.

Yeah, i think Orpik may be the odd man out, or they could staal Letang over the summer.

The main problem and cap issues with resigning iginla wil come in 2 years when malkin, letang, and sutter will all get raises.

There are some defensemen who will have expiring contacts, but there aren't too many who can replace them on the cheap yet. Despres will likely be ready for top 4, but it will be interesting to see if dumoulin or harrington can fill in by then.

Personally, with our current makeup and D prospects, I'd prefer to trade Niskanen in the offseason and re-sign Murray to a 2-year $4,000,000 deal.

Yeah, I like Murray a lot. He's not as slow as I thought he'd be (definitely faster than Hal Gill), and he keeps people honest in front of the net. Keep him.
