Dear Pens Fans: Take care of Iggy

Postby Red-Mile-DJ on Thu Mar 28, 2013 9:04 am

I know I already posted this in the trade thread, but I'm hoping the mods let me start this thread and leave this here.

Hey everyone...

Calgary Flames and Jarome Iginla fan here.

I normally post over on CalgaryPuck.com, but I wanted to come over here and say this:

Please be the best fans you can be to Jarome. He was great for Calgary. He'll be great for you. Treat him well. I know you all will. Please give him a big warm welcome. He's a class act and I'm glad to see him with the Penguins.

The great city of Pittsburgh just got a million more fans from Calgary. We all want to see him get that cup ring. We wish him nothing but the best. I personally don't care about the return or what the critics are saying. I just want to see him win that elusive Stanley Cup.

Take care of our boy, Pens. We'll be cheering for you in Calgary!

Nice post Red.

No surprise to you I'm sure, I've heard several times from other fans (penguins or otherwise) over the years "Iginla is my favorite player not playing on my team" - or something worded like that. I was one of them.

Speaking of, I wonder who my favorite non-Penguin player is now....

Pens fans are real classy just like Jarome himself, I am sure this will be the case. We could not be any more of a polar opposite than fans of our opposite side of the state rivals.

I've been reading a lot of comments on the Penguins Facebook page.

Lots of love from you guys for him. Lots of people wishing and thanking Calgary for "raising" such a great player.

A classy guy goes to a classy bunch of fans. I love it.

If there was any city in the NHL I would believe Iggy woudl fit into, would be Pittsburgh. I am not saying that because I am a Penguin fan. Pittsburgh is a down-to-earth work hard city and the only travesty is that the Pens didn't go after Iggy sooner.

Iggy is my favorite player outside the Pens and has been for many years. I can't express the excitement to have him on the Pens even if it is only for a short while.

He WILL be appreciated by this city, team and fans. I know it.

We welcome Iggy with open arms. Hopefully some day we can return the favor. This was obviously Jeromes choice to come here. We are a very lucky and fortunate fanchise.

This is by far away my favorite trade that Shero-era has done (Francis trade is #1 trade in Pens history for me). Iggy is this era's Francis trade. They bring a guy who is one of the most respected and loved guys in the NHL. One of my favorites in the league, I am so pumped that we got him.

Great post. I'll be there to (hopefully) see him in his first game in pens uniform on Saturday. I know it'll be tough for you all in Calgary, but we can all hope to see him hoist the cup in June.

Thanks Red Mile, appreciate it.

I really wished for you guys to get a true send off for Iginla, last night at home...you just know something magical would have happened, hockey has a way of doing that. Just like when Mario left in 1997, he scores on that breakaway at home against Philadelphia. There wasn't a dry eye in the house.

Iginla would have done the same last night in Calgary for sure and it would have brought the house down, I'm not even sure I would have been able to keep composure if a moment like that occurred. The Flames fans that have put up with so much deserved to send their captain off in style. Not have him be whisked away in the middle of the night like this, IMO.

Thanks for the well wishes.

haha - I don't dislike the clown really. I'd guess Datsyuk would be in the running.

Loved seeing the "iggy" chants in the game last night, even though he wasn't playing.

I don't have a problem with Hartnell either. My two favorites are Lecavlier and HOssa.

Iggy has always been a favorite of mine and especially, my son! He has had Iginla posters on his wall since he was 8 years old and had a Calgary Flames Iginla jersey since he was that age. You have no idea how stoked we both are right now. My son's birthday is next week. I think I know what his gift should be!

BTW: He turns 18 this year!

I've always loved Iginla. I worked real hard this season not to get my hopes up, and it paid off cause now I'm super excited.

Since the '02 olympics I've paid especially close attention to his career growth. He's one of the top players in the league imo, combining strength, physical play, a nose for the net and his natural talent. On top of this he's a class act, and fits in perfectly with our organization. The fact that he believes in the team and would not consider going to Boston, a fresh cup team as well as the Pens, speaks volumes to me.

I don't know how many people here were rooting for Calgary over Tampa Bay in 2004, but I surely was. Iginla is a player who deserves a championship. That's the least he's earned.

Seems to be a common thought, but Iggy has definitely been my favorite non-Pen for a very long time now... Idk how anyone cannot love what he's about.

Thanks for the classy post, and hopefully we'll all get to enjoy him raising the cup!

Favorite non-Pen until last week was Kovalev. Now I guess it is Umberger.
