RIP to franchise's worst -- and most cursed -- sweater. Memo to NHL: Next alternate design, remember team's first name, too. Black & gold.

What does he mean, "remember team's first name"?

They were called the "Pittsburgh Pirates" before they went bankrupt way back in the early part of the 20th century.

ridiculous move.

NEVER turn your back on your heritage.

These blues weren't heritage. Far from it.

They were an abortion of different stylings. The logo was never actually used on a jersey, the colors were inverted... It's just terrible.

Never said they were an exact replica... (Although they should have used exact replica's)

Still doesn't change the fact that they were a close approximation.

You can argue the fine points all you want, but this organizaton had a long history prior to switching to Black and Gold.

Just say'n.

They were not a close approximation. They were literally unlike any jersey the Penguins had worn in their entire history aside from the mish-mash of blues and stripes (taken from different jerseys). They were a botched Frankenstein creation that deservedly got the axe.

Ridiculous move. (if true)

NEVER turn your back on your heritage.

They needed the 1980-81 blues. that became the 80-81 black & gold. Don't know why they wouldn't go there. That said, I'd be happy if they never wore blue again.

There's a clear difference between "having a different opinion" and looking down on people because they don't like a mish-mash jersey because you consider it to be "history"

Also I would classify a decision to not wear a certain jerseys as "ridiculous." Its what they want to do.

These were a pure cash-in for Bandwagon fans. Can't blame the team for selling them, but we can for wearing them. Utter stupidity.

The baby blues were fine, and like I said for the winter classic(s) they're okay. But not for 6 games a freaking season when the team's goddamn colors are black and gold. If you want blue and gold travel the extra mile and a half down Forbes.

Yes I agree. I should note I meant to say "wouldnt" in my post. Response to EPP saying it was a "ridiculous decision" not to wear them

Die, cursed blues. The uni equivalent of the Brady Bunch tiki. Probably need to be returned to the tomb of the 12th Penguin.

These could have been a 3rd jersey in line with the original uniforms. Close color scheme, old style logo with he scarf. But still not good.

Looking at video of serious injuries to Pens superstars is all the evidence I need that those jerseys were baaaaaaad juju.

Regardless of why they are gone, they are gone. Decision was made by the brass, so its out of our hands. I'll have an extra drink for this reason tonight.

Looks like #BurnTheBlues worked. About time. It was, in comparison with other teams, a huge botch job when there are badass historic jerseys for them to use.

Like the triangle Penguin. Oh God, they won't try to re-introduce that, will they?
