I'm really hoping that Jussi turns out to be the surprise of all the deals... it's unlikely... but one can hope

If thats all he does, i'll be disappointed. I expect him to provide a real amount of offense and be defensibly reliable.

if he can win half of the face-offs that he takes in the defensive zone that would be tremendous

jussi struggled in carolina in a checking role. thats not really his forte. this isnt to say that he is a liability on the back end, but hes no badass two-way fwd.

He should still contribute a lot more than Adams.

oh absolutely. i think that comparison was leaning more towards "more of an impact player than anyone really anticipated" more so than "playing like craig adams" but i couldve read it wrong.

I see...but I think he should have some expectations set for him whereas Adams had none. The Pens are paying him $2.1 million prorated and he isn't really the typical waiver castoff.

All i care about is that he is a functional center who can win faceoffs on a consistent basis. If he does those things, then i'm happy.

Historically, the dude's been a beast on facoffs. That alone should be a huge help... can't keep starting every PP and PK with the opponents getting puck possession.

Hoping I'm wrong, but I sure don't get a warm fuzzy feeling from him centering "the best line" in hockey.

A mere technicality, but that former number one line is now the number 2 line.

If Jokinen can maintain his faceoff success, I really like where our game is headed. No longer is the load on Crosby to win defensive zone faceoffs, especially on the right side. I'm a big advocate of faceoff success, especially come playoff time. Last shift of the Cup victory in 09, Staal lost the draw clean and they almost scored. Simply tying up that draw at worst, kills that clock. I think it's a huge advantage in the playoffs.

The fact that he has some offensive potential and can kill penalties is a bonus. I'm not exactly familiar with his PK skills, but Carolina is at the bottom of the league for PK, so I will temper my expectations. I still think it was a brilliant pick up by Shero, especially for the price. RS also said he was looking at him a lot earlier, so it's not like this was a knee jerk reaction.

So if JJ is a success in Pens uniform ,whats the price to keep him,2.1M for next season? Iginla,Morrow,Kennedy,Jokinen,Jeffrey...Shero will have a lot of work,to manage something good and balanced.

Have to agree with that, in fact, probably third best line on the team.

the pens just need to start winning draws in their own zone... like I said half of them would go a long way to them being way better in their own zone.

Say what? Now that's low expectations. Jussi Jokinen's more than that. And Pens got him for nothing. Don't get the negative reactions on the move.

Juicy is a winger who happens to take some faceoffs because he's really good at them. Let's not raise expectations too high with how he'll play as a center suddenly because that's not really been his position before and he was also resurrected off of the scrap pile by Carolina a few years back only to be given up this year(mainly salary reasons and he's not a good 3rd liner).

I like Jokinen, but he's not all-world by any means, though I hope he gets a boost in his game in Pittsburgh and suddenly shows the same form as he did in the playoffs for the Canes a few years ago when he did in fact look all-world.
