He does but also takes draws depending on his linemates. He was pretty good as a 2nd liner in Carolina until this year where he hasn't done much and seen a lot of 3rd line. Not a gritty player but does bring some skill. Pair with someone who can create some space for him to get into a scoring area and won't be bad as a stop-gap.

Basically, he should be serviceable on a Kunitz-Jokinen-Dupuis line until Crosby can come back. Better option than DJ or TK there.

Maybe this means the price on Boyd Gordon was too high.

I didn't think you could take back salary anymore. This guy has 3 million next year it seems. That's not so good.

As I found out a few weeks ago in one of these threads, teams can take back salary.

For the love of god you'd think so, but I thought so after Morrow and Iginla too

Iginla never kills penalties, Morrow did but was declining for the last few years. Only player to come close to Glass's 1:26 is Crosby at 41 seconds.

The salary part is something new in the CBA. Also, Pens don't have to keep him next year. They can buy him out. At 3 million, that's nothing. Also, depending on what Carolina kept, his cap hit wouldn't even be 3 next year if we wanted to keep him.

McKenzie says he needs to pay 25 percent of playoff games and we need to go Cup Final for it to be an actual pick. Otherwise nothing it seems.

It's a conditional 7th round pick.

This is absolute robbery.

If Jokinen plays 50 per cent of PIT 2013 playoff games AND PIT wins the CUP, CAR gets a 6th round pick from PIT. #tradecentre

I mean, its a waiver pick up only we are getting him at less than 3mm. He was just on waivers, and the issue was only salary. If he was making 2.5 or 2 he probably gets claimed. Nice move to shave some dollars off.

The ever enigmatic HCDB, folks

Lets time i checked, DB didn't trade for Jokinen, Shero did and we havn't even seen what the lineup will look like yet

I would not say robbery. The guy was on waivers last week. Shero essentailly gives up one of his two buyouts for the guy. (probably because he knows he does not need two buyouts as other teams do to get under the cap next season.)

I love this move. Love love love.

Great faceoff guy, can play on top lines in a pinch. Better than TK, Vitale, or DJ. Perfect temp replacement for Sid until he comes back, at which point will be a great 4th line/pk guy that can play 2nd pp if needed.

Guy plays his heart out each game, too. Not the most talented guy, but I'm pretty pumped about this move, at least in the short-term

We didn't pick him up on waivers because we didn't need someone to fill a gap left by an injured Crosby.

We basically got him for free. Carolina even picked up some of the salary.

Scouting Report
Assets: Is skilled and polished. Rarely makes mistakes with the puck and is also a sound positional forward. Excels in shootouts and can line up at all three forward positions.
Flaws: Isn't very big or strong, and can be intimidated by bigger defensemen. Is considered 'soft' by NHL standards. Lacks consistency in the offensive zone.
Career Potential: Versatile, skilled forward.
