Watching Pascal fill the center role because the Pens need him to, and succeed doing it! Wow.

Every society should have an anthem. This one comes to mind, its oldschool.... no, its from the school that was there BEFORE the old school was erected.

The proper song for Dupuis would be Any Way You Want It

I'll be honest, I love the idea of the Merry Marvel Marching Society song: It's catchy, it's fun, it's got clapping, it may infect the old-school game-goers with some nostalgia and they'll sing along. But I also see Pascal as our Merry Marvel--he's by all reports an outstanding teammate, he does whatever is asked of him and he does it happily, he's worked his arse off to be a hero, and his good example inspires his teammates and fans to march with him to glory! He makes us all proud! And we all can belong to the PADS! (I think his kids would like the song, too!)

Clearly, I have thought about this. This could be a movement. I've always wanted to be part of this type of movement. :slug:

Whatever song we come up with, we have to get the suggestion to In-Game Ops! Get their folks to attempt to get the permission to use it as a goal song for Pascal.

Stand a little straighter. Walk a little prouder.
Be an innovator. Clap a little louder.
Grow forever greater. We can show you how to.
Where will you be then?
You belong, you belong, you belong, you’ll belong
To the Merry Marvel Marching Society.
March along, march along, march along to the song
Of the Merry Marvel Marching Society.
If you growl, if you grown with a down sour outlook,
If you howl, if you moan, you can lose your sour grout
By keeping trim and in step with the vim and the pep
Of the Merry Marvel Marching Society.
Be an early riser. Strive to be ambitious.
Speak a little wiser. Try to be judicious.
Be a good advisor, never ever vicious.
Where will you be then?

Face front…
Lift your head…
You’re on the winning team…
NUFF SAID!

You belong, you belong, you belong, you belong,
To the Merry Marvel Marching Society.
March along, march along, march along to the song
Of the Merry Marvel Marching Society.
If you growl, if you grown
And your star is nearly zero,
Do not howl, do not moan,
You can be a superhero,
Marching right along to the fighting song
Of the Merry Marvel Marching Society.
Stand a little straighter. Walk a little prouder.
Be an innovator. Clap a little louder.
Grow forever greater. We can show you how to.
Where will you be then?

I admit, though, that every time I see this thread I think of the Village Green Preservation Society... : ) and then I have the song in my head all day...

We need Duper lyrics to the tune of "The Wonderful Thing about Tiggers."

^From today's GDT

The wonderful thing about Dupers
Is Dupers are wonderful things!
Their skates are made from rockets.
Their fingers wear Stanley Cup rings!
They're fiesty, speedy, ready, steady
Make watching the games so much fun.
Ask anyone from Pittsburgh they’ll say
number nine is number one.

Dupers are awesome teammates;
Playing with him is a treat.
Other teams are jealous,
That's why I repeat... and repeat

The wonderful thing about Dupers
Is Dupers come ready to play!
They're loaded with vim and vigor
They’ll take faceoffs & kill penalties all day!
They battle & rattle, they score and much more;
They make watching the games so much fun.
Ask anyone from Pittsburgh they’ll say
number nine is number one.

Shero needs just resign duper now. His value is skyrocketing each game he plays.

He can't. And Duper's agent probably won't let him anyway.

Not allowed to negotiate with upcoming free agents right now, if I not mistaken. Or maybe I got it all wrong and got the rules mixed up.

Can anyone confirm or correct?

I don't know if they're allowed to or not, but I highly doubt Shero signs anyone until he deals with Malkin and Letang... they are the top priorities and everything else shakes out from there. Not to mention that I'd be surprised if he doesn't at least test the waters to see what kind of money is out there.

The more I think about it, the less sure I am. As I said, maybe it's some other rule I have in mind.

They can negotiate and sign an extension at this point. I'm not completely sure what you're referencing, Gaucho. The only applicable thing I can think of is players who signed a one year deal cannot enter into an extension until after January 1 of that playing year. That's the best I can think of...

I stand corrected. Sorry about the confusion, I thought for some reason that contract negotiations are not possible after the deadline.

@ Gaucho - I mean, who knows, maybe you are right...but I've never heard of that personally...I also haven't seen the new CBA yet, which I continue to gripe about it...

@ prof - Not especially. I'm not sure Dupuis makes it to July 1st, I really think he likes it here and I think we'll reward him for playing for peanuts with this "thank you" contract that I keep referencing. The Oilers can pretty easily craft Magnus Svensson-Paajarvi into Pascal Dupuis if they wanted to or thereabouts. They need some man sandpaper in there, some size, some men, some glue. And not that Dupuis isn't a man, or gritty or gluey but he'll be, what, 35 at the end of next regular season...? What are you gonna do, tell Katz (owner) that you're spending, what, $10 million over 3 years on a player that will be 35 before the first year is up...? That's a tough sell to me personally. But that doesn't make it impossible certainly. But you have to be smart here, if you're going to dip into the free agent pool, you want a player that can grow with your core. By the time this core really ready to go, Dupuis will be in the twilight of his career presumably...

No biggie. I just really like his game. He seems to be better each year, and plays well with nearly anyone db puts him with. Definitely worth keeping around in my opinion.

Going back to the idea of signing him now. His value can go nowhere but down at this point. I'd rather they wait and sign him in June.

The trades for Kunitz and Dupuis are quickly ranking up there with the moves CP made in 92
